For those needing MQM, you might want to jump on this deal I found valid for only one weekend!
It’s San Francisco (SFO) to London Heathrow (LHR), departing Friday afternoon, November 8, and returning that Sunday evening. Main cabin all the way, with KLM on the outbound and Delta metal returning. (The SFO runway fiasco should be finished by then.)
Here’s how it breaks down:
- Routing: SFO-AMS-LHR; overnight in London; LHR-DTW-SFO.
- MQM: 11,818
- Cost: $495
- CPM: 4.2
This gives you plenty of time to explore London on Saturday afternoon and evening — and still get a decent night’s rest before returning to Heathrow.
There also are options for a nonstop from Heathrow and also another connecting through Minneapolis. They don’t yield quite as many MQM as this run — though the MSP itinerary falls only a couple hundred MQM short.
Where to Book?
Obviously, this fare is (currently) available on Delta.com. But if you were targeted for the Air France/KLM Amex Offer, you may consider booking on their .us sites — assuming you can book a few more trips in the next month and a half to meet the $1000 minimum spend requirement.
Not Based in San Francisco?
The early afternoon flight gives you enough time to position in the night before — or even the morning of November 8. Plus, the 6:29 PM arrival back at SFO should give you time to position back to your original destination — even if it involves a redeye later that evening.

Thanks Chris, this is great. If I were to book it through KLM, do you think this would get more MQD’s? I’d book it with my delta number of course as opposed to my flyblue number…
@Jeff: Yes — between $500-ish and $1000-ish MQD (depends on fare class, of course).
