A Delta employee faces firearm charges after bringing a loaded gun with him to work at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL).
In today’s edition of airline employees doing stupid things that make the rest of them look bad, Delta Air Lines mechanic Frank Wilson was arrested Sunday when a Delta security agent found the Glock Model 21 .45 caliber pistol in Mr. Wilson’s backpack.
Mr. Wilson told a sheriff’s deputy he does not have a concealed weapons permit.
Whoops.
As a result, WSVN TV notes, he was charged with one count of carrying a concealed firearm and his gun was confiscated.
Local 10 writes Mr. Wilson posted $500 bail following his Monday hearing.
(Delta, of course, is no stranger to firearm-related news.)
Miami’s WPLG TV news reports Mr. Wilson told law enforcement “he put it there to keep it away from his nephew and forgot to take it out before showing up for work.”
If that’s the truth, then perhaps Mr. Wilson’s stashing the gun in his backpack could have prevented a tragedy. But locking the weapon in a safe, secure location in the first place is probably a better option. — Chris

You’d be surprised how often employees bring guns to work intentionally or unintentionally. It is rare when employers find out.
I’m somewhat surprised to see no comments from any NRA-inspired, second-amendment fanatics. You know the “good guy with a gun – bad guy with a gun” thing. In addition to its membership organization, the NRA represents the companies that make and sell guns. And surprise, the NRA’s simple solution to gun violence is to arm everyone, all the time, everywhere, with any gun they can carry. (End rant if some want to call it that.)

Seriously this is so easy to have this happen. As a shooting sports enthusiast I enjoy taking my handguns to the range but I have a strict rule that I never put a gun or ammunition in my travel / work backpack. I know at some point I would forget and rush off to the airport with a gun, ammo or at least residue on the bag. This is very very important when you make frequent trips to places like Israel like I do.
