A Delta Air Lines pilot was arrested at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) Tuesday on suspicion of being intoxicated.
According to KSTP-TV, the pilot ducked out of the security line when he observed TSA officers conducting additional screening. Officers notified Minneapolis Airport Police, who conducted two sobriety checks. The television station reports he found under the influence of alcohol on one test. The second test is pending.
“Others working suspected the pilot was intoxicated,” KSTP says, “as they could smell the alcohol on him.”
Yikes.
Delta issued a statement to ABC News, which read: “Delta’s alcohol policy is among the strictest in the industry and we have no tolerance for violation. Delta is cooperating with local authorities in their investigation.”
The unnamed pilot was scheduled to operate a flight from MSP to San Diego (SAN).
Whenever I hear about an (allegedly) drunk pilot, I of the Boeing 727 pilots of Northwest flight 650, who flew from my hometown of Fargo to Minneapolis. Lyle Prouse, the flight’s captain, testified he drank as many as 20 rum and diet sodas the night before operating the flight.
