Delta announced that existing passengers with qualifying Punta Cana (PUJ), Dominican Republic itineraries can modify their trips and not be assessed a change fee.
It seems only the change fee is being waived.
Tickets to Punta Cana must have been purchased on or before June 21. Travel must have been scheduled to be completed by August 15.
Changes to departure cities or destinations are subject to fare increases. Say you paid $400 for a Delta trip to Punta Cana and want to visit St. Maarten instead. If the SXM itinerary prices out at $700, you’re on the hook for the extra $300.
But Delta will comp you that $200 change fee. (Read the Delta post about to learn more.)
Want to cancel your ticket to Punta Cana? You can — and will receive Delta credit that must be used toward the purchase of another ticket within a year. But you’ll be responsible for change fees and any applicable fare increases.

I wouldn’t go to DR even if for free. No tks!!!
I don’t believe that Trip Insurance would cover you for cancelling (or changing) a trip to DR.
I am staying at the Grand Bahia Principe in Punta Cana next week. The resort is absolutely to die for. Just don’t drink the hooch!
@Joe – Maybe not the best description of the location in the current environment?
If you’d rather not die for it, remember you can change your destination and travel dates. 😉
