A couple of interesting mileage runs to London — including one from LAX alternative Burbank! — crossed our radars!
Hollywood-Burbank (BUR) to London Heathrow (LHR) Mileage Run: 12,306 MQM at 4.1 CPM!
Flights in and out of BUR have traditionally been a tad spendy. For the past dozen or so years, Delta’s service has consisted of a handful of daily regional connection flights to SLC. But now that ATL mainline service begins July 8, the mothership seems eager to fill that route!
- Here’s what I found:
Departing Friday, November 8
Returning Sunday, November 10
Outbound: BUR-SLC-CDG-LHR.
Return: LHR-ATL-BUR
MQMs: 12,306
Main Cabin Cost: $510.43 (4.1 CPM!)
Basic Economy Cost: $370.43 (3 CPM!)
This trip is bookable on delta.com. The Paris to London hop is operated by Air France; all the other flights are Delta metal.
When I checked, there were several departure times available: 7:10 AM, 10:19 AM, and 1:00 PM. (The 1:00 gives only an hour connection in SLC, which makes me a little nervous for connecting to an international flight). Plus, BUR is a fairly simple in-city airport that’s easy to get to and has plenty of cheap long term parking. The 8:52 PM arrival on Sunday night isn’t too bad, either.
My wife asked if I could find something during the week: the price for this run skyrocketed to over $2000! And the November 8 weekend, in particular, was the cheapest.
I appreciate the $140 savings between Main Cabin and Basic E. And all you really need is a carryon bag for this weekend trip, so luggage isn’t really a consideration. But you really don’t want to run the risk of getting stuck in a bad seat for several long flights.
BASIC ECONOMY E RUN: Boston (BOS) to London Heathrow (LHR) Mileage Run: 7222 MQM at 3.3 CPM!
Reader Bob tipped us off to this Basic Economy E run from Boston to London on October 25, returning on Sunday, October 27.
- Departing Friday, October 25
Returning Sunday, October 27
Outbound: BOS-LHR
Return: LHR-AMS-BOS
MQMs: 7222
Main Cabin Cost: $384.13 (5.3 CPM)
Basic Economy Cost: $244.13 (3.3 CPM!)
5.3 CPM in Main Cabin isn’t terrible — especially for an international weekend trip. If you travel solo and don’t mind where you sit, the Basic E fare is pretty tasty.
This trip is bookable on delta.com. The London to Amsterdam hop is operated by KLM; all the other flights are Delta metal.
Remember SkyTeam Elite Lounge Access
Remember that SkyTeam Elite members (Delta Diamond, Platinum, and Gold Medallions) receive complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs and other SkyTeam lounges when traveling internationally. SkyTeam Elite members can also bring in one guest traveling on the same international itinerary.
London for Only a Day?
I stayed in London for one-night during a European run last year and saw a lot during the 16 hours I was there. (That includes sleep and transfer times). If you’re content seeing sights and maybe visiting one, you can accomplish a lot in London in just one day.
Other Cities
While poking around Google Flights, I also found some OK runs (5.1-ish CPM) from LAX and SFO available on Delta and DL partner Virgin Atlantic, with several fall weekend dates available. – Chris
