First Look at the NEW Delta One 767-400 seat (not a Delta One Suite) – Count me Impressed!

Delta putting Delta One Suites on most of its jets including the A350, 777 and the soon to be delivered A330-900neo. I am not a huge fan of these Delta One Suites as I found them to be cramped and almost claustrophobic feeling. Well soon I will have another option as we see in the video released today from Delta. Take a look at a few screen shots:

a group of seats in a row

The refurbished 767-400s will  NOT  have Delta One Suites (D1S) but instead this new style seat without a door – Excellent!

In the video they are bragging up more space and yet still offering privacy and comfort. I hope they add in more storage space as that always seems to be lacking in all Delta One products.

You will have all the things you have come to expect from Delta One, that is, a huge screen, 110 power and USB power (keep in mind Delta USB power is poor). I also like the look of the divider in the middle that will either give you real privacy from your seat mate or open up more than the Suite one when you are traveling with someone (or at least it seems that way at first glance).

Count me impressed with this seat, Delta – can’t wait to see it live! – René

Is 34 seats a reduction in the total?

I wonder if this is a realization that the Delta One Suite is deeply flawed.

@FNT – Correct. The old configuration was 40. I would agree the D1S is deeply flawed but since they are putting them on the new A330-900neo I doubt they agree with you and I!

I agree. I don’t think the suite adds anything. When I see “Suite” I expect something that feels like it’s a room.

Well there was no way to put the D1 suite on a 767 in a 1-2-1 configuration. The 767 is substantially narrower than a 777 or A350. I’d prefer a seat like the Apex suite on Korean Air 747-8 and some 777-300s and Japan Airlines 787-9. The Apex Suite allows 2-2-2 seating with all aisle access even on a 787. No doors. The window seats have better privacy than D1 suites and outstanding storage. Plus your feet and lower legs don’t get jammed into a tube under the console of the seat in front. Still the new 767 seat is a big improvement over current Delta 767s and maybe even D1 suite.

    1) I don’t understand why Delta would reduce the number of business-class seats. Delta should have increased them and increased premium-economy while decreasing economy. The cabins are mostly full. Meanwhile, United is ADDING business-class and premium-class seats in a greater number than Delta.

    2) The doors on the Delta One suites are useless because they do not close all the way.

I will say I like the divider and am glad Delta is bringing it these seats. Flew UA EWR-LAX on their 787-10 and the dividers on made it easy to feel connected to the person next to you when traveling together. Otherwise, shields up!

While I really like the concept of these new “open suites” as opposed to the somewhat claustrophobic original ones fitted to the A350 and 777, I also understand that these new seats will only be 19-inch which is no different from a lot of coach seats and 2 inches narrower than previous Delta One seats. This might be OK for a skinny person but not for somebody like me (6’5″, 230 lbs), which was the main reason why I purchase a business class seat in the first place. Delta really dropped the ball here.
