AeroMexico (AM), unfortunately, only flies a 787 once a day to and from JFK. This means the other flights are different varieties of the 737. Mine was a 737-800. You may get a newer one or a very old one. Either way it is a long flight in a domestic 1st class seat (about 5 hours).

The plus side with the 737s is that AM uses Gogo as the onboard wifi provider vs. the Panasonic Viasat on the 787 Dreamliner. That is, if it is working and that can be hit and miss with AM.

The cabin is 2×2 four rows. The plus side of this layout is a bit more leg room between the rows and that is needed as you will see soon.

Things I do appreciate about these seats are that they are leather. Have an adjustable head rest. Decent seat width and a leg rest (nice for sleeping). The seat itself is comfortable.

The one row I would avoid is the bulkhead seats. You have even more limited leg room than the other rows.

But the other seats do have an issue, that is, the IFE box is under your seat so forget about putting anything here.

Seat controls are basic but functional. The only issue is they are all the same and with lights out it can be hard to find the right one you want (then again there are only 4 so…).

a tv on the back of a seat

I think my biggest gripe about these seats is the IFE. It is a fold out and it is just hard to get it into a comfortable viewing position. It feels like it is right up in your face and you can not get it square in front of you.

As mentioned in the beginning of the post, the 737 fleet (other than the currently grounded 737 Max jets with Viasat) is equipped with Gogo. You will see a mix of 2Ku wifi and ground based older tech.

AeroMexico was mean and parked us next to the jet I really wanted to be on, that is, a Dreamliner. Ah well, on to dinner:

a white paper with black text

a menu with text on it

The menu is very similar to the JFK-MEX flight with chicken being substituted for the fish the other way.

a plate of cheese grapes and grapes on a table

The somewhat meager cheese and fruit appetizer.

a tray of food on a table

The prawns and salad were quite good. The chicken was totally dry and destroyed.

a plate with a slice of cake and a spoon

After such a filling meal (yes, kidding) the dainty dessert was much appreciated.

Overall the service was good but 5ish hours in this seat is a bit much. The AeroMexico meals are universally average quality (at best) from breakfast to lunch and dinner. I wish with Delta owning 49% of the company they could work with their catering to improve the offers! – René

@dotti – Early flight from MEX to JFK so it can turn for 4pm back.

It’s funny how you complain about the “quality” of the meal, but overlook how much better the presentation is than Delta. They serve it correctly in courses with proper utensils for each course. Job well done. They even have real champagne, not cheap cava or prosecco. The wine list is as good as a Delta One long-haul flight.

@FNT – I would trade presentation for better flavors and quality in a heartbeat. I do agree the wine choices are much better than Delta domestic standard offerings.
