Last week Gary from View From the Wing had a post: “Delta Doesn’t Want You to Watch CNN or Fox News in its Clubs“. The point of the post was reports that Delta has banned clubs from displaying these channels (if they have a TV(s) in the club that is).
Let me say I personally think both of these channels are poor “news” channels. Maybe it is just because I am old-ish and remember the days when news channels were almost all respected and not impacted by 24/7 profit driven programing.
Anyway, since there are a number of readers asking about this I decided to reach out to Delta for confirmation one way or the other about this and was provided the following quote:
“We have recently changed the channels offered on the television screens in the Clubs. This move is in response to ongoing customer feedback regarding what they’d like to see in the Clubs, and we plan to vary the channels a few times throughout the year.” – Kathryn Steele Delta Corporate Communications
So there we have it. It seems that if members gripe, errr, give feedback that they do not like some channel being shown, that in that club they may show something else for a while.
I was just this past Sunday in the main A Sky Club in Detroit and you can see they are showing both CNN and FOX on alternative screens on one side of the club. In the central food court area CNN and a basketball game was on. – René

If they really wanted to rile people up, they’d put Fox on the left screen and CNN on the right.

Currently, Foxnews & cnn side by side at the bar in skyclub A in ATL
I’m ok with this. Both stations only promote ignorance and hatred. There is no reason to be showing either of them in a public setting
Both networks are biased but I would lean more to watching FOX but I could care less if CNN was on. I can see dump stupid people going to the club workers asking them to change the channel as they do not agree with the political viewpoint of one of the networks it amazes me people don’t have anything better to worry about.
The usual in clubs is CNN or sports not often do I see FOX news! Would like to see more of it to balance CNN !

Agreed! I would posit further that the final “And that’s the way it is,” was signalling a beginning to the end for that iconic news casting era of which you write.
IMO, it’s like today’s domestic news outlets (sat/cable/streaming and traditional broadcast) focus on little more than producing 24-hour-cycles of overly editorialized/opinionated blather, having lost touch with actual reporting of news in general 🙁 I have yet to understand how talking heads rehashing, ad nauseum, something from hours/days/weeks ago is still “Breaking News” now; that seems pretty broken to me, LOL.

CNN and Fox are not news stations. They are editorial and entertainment entities. While we may agree or disagree with the opinions they broadcast, they are far from actual, objective news.
Jon Stewart is as much a News commentator as Rachel MadCow or Guttfeld.
You will still NEVER see MSNBC. That has to be coming from Atlanta-based CNN.
I actually liked the fact that they had both points of view represented in the Sky Lounge. I personally would rather have no TV at all just like we don’t have one at home.
@rene — Delta might be more pragmatic toward viewers by offering an international (BBC, Al Jazeera, Sky, etc.)* option in addition to the domestic (Fox, CNN, etc.)* screens, as Skyclubs do host international travelers. Even when traveling domestically, a “not always the same perspective/coverage” viewing option is nice from time to time.
This would be a viable use of demographic data Delta already gathers about its passengers and Skyclub customers. 😉 OTOH, Sky News is only one “enhancement” away from Skynews, LOL 🙂

BTW, I get your references to Stewart and Guttfeld [sic], as both are accomplished political satirists, but didn’t immediately see the nexus to Madcow. Until I remembered Richard Madcow, most decidedly not a news commentator but rather an obscure bit-playing actor. Well played, my friend! That’s a name I’d never expect to see used outside of Trivial Pursuit, you win the ‘entertainment’ wedge, LOL!
If you want political, put on “All in the Family” sitcom with Edith and Archie. It’s timeless (we are still divided today about a lot of the same things we are today) and humorous at the same time. It might make us take a second look as to how ridiculous our political stances have become.
I can confirm this just happened at the SLC Delta Club this evening 5/10/19. Agent came out and changed to CNBC, manager confirmed. No CNN or Fox News they said. Two older gentlemen came unglued and one was almost thrown out for using language in front of families (“this is bull&#%÷” he said).
Hmm, whadoyaknowabouthat? Maybe they are actively trying to mix it up a little more. My observations 5/20/19 might suggest this: MSP F-club had a local channel running morning news until 8am, then switched to CNN. MSP C-club was showing both CNN and Fox; ATL F-club was showing CNBC, Fox and an international sports channel (didn’t see a bug/logo to identify which sport network) on screens over the bar.
Sorry, didn’t have time between connections to grab data points on way back home today.
Following up on my earlier ‘one enhancement away’ comment, still no Skynews in Skyclub, LOL.
