Unless you have been living under a VERY large rock you are well aware of the heroic Delta flight out of the middle of hurricane Maria. Just – mind – blowing! Brave, you bet. Scary? I am sure. #DeltaProud – you bet! I could go on.
Before that final fight Delta did the right thing by capping fares out of Puerto Rico or SJU airport as they did for Florida airport. In fact, that ORIGINAL fare lock lasts until tomorrow the 26th that has, with the latest update, been extended until 9OCT17. #KeepClimbing worthy.
Now getting into SJU is not so simple. Clearly the island is a total disaster. When you can not communicate how do you even coordinate anything. What a total nightmare. I feel for everyone on the island and those at Delta who are trying to help. And they really are as you can see on the video at the Delta New Hub.

But David Begnaud from CBS news is also reporting things are not going as well as the publicized reports are portraying. Folks waiting for days to fly out are suggesting fares in the thousands of dollars from Delta and simply shameful behavior from Delta people. I did reach out to Delta for comment but was just referred to the News Hub site.
Now I am willing to give Delta folks in Puerto Rico a ton of slack here. Likely their homes are also destroyed. They too are falling apart and coming to work to do what they can. If I were stuck there I would do what I can to thank them for just being at the airport. These are crazy times.
I have a very close friend who has family on the island. I have offered my home to them for as long as they need if they need it. I am happy to burn points to get them here. I know it will take months and I am sure if they stay that long we will be like family (both good and bad)!
Bottom line, I truly praise Delta and Delta people for their efforts. They are taking on a task so gargantuan in scope and need that it probably should be a government level task and for that I am #DeltaProud today! – René

Rene, the pic above is before Hurricane Irma who’s eye went North of Puerto Rico. Also, my wife’s family is one of those trying to get our. She is Boricua (Puertorriqueño) but feel it is best to cone to FL for 2-3 months. Very hard to communicate with them.
