On our way back from Sweden to South Bend, specifically in Delta One from Amsterdam to Detroit, I had a number of choices for the main dinner meal. From the above choices what would you have picked? I chose:

The steak. And let me tell you, I made the right choices (vegans look away now please).

I know it is somewhat hard to tell in the photo but it was a PERFECT medium. I mean perfect. I could almost cut this with a fork. Numm… but now the warning and when there can be times you may want to change your order.

The above is a much thinner lunch steak I tried from Atlanta to St. Thomas early in May just before our trip to Sweden. It was horrible. A hockey puck. While my wife had the fish that was much better.

You see, what happened was there was a delay in departure. We were just about set to push back and fly when an issue came up with a passenger and we sat for over an hour at the gate. So what you ask?
Here is the thing. Most times, when you are just about ready to fly, the flight attendants have turned the ovens on to warm up the precooked lunch (or dinner) you are about to enjoy. You can imagine what can happen to a thin small (even perfect – at one point – medium precooked) steak when warmed up for almost 2 hours. Yuck.
So here is my quick weekend tip for you – if you have ordered steak on a Delta flight, and there is any kind of delay at the gate, seriously think about changing your meal order choice or simply change to a cold choice off the snack cart (even if you have to pay for it)! – René

Meals are often inconsistent. Same meal different departure city can be night an day.
@Evan – Yes, there is that too but I think how long in the ovens is a major factor. At least in my experience.
Had a perfect steak flying from Frankfurt today. Everything eas superb, appetizers, salad, deserts. Kudos to crew of DL400 today.
