Most regular readers know that one of the main reasons I got into the points and miles game was because of Sweden. I love this place even when it is kinda a rainy day and summertime is just stunning with the sun almost not going down in the southern half of the country and it not going down at all, for a while, in the north. Amazing.
This latest trip worked out just about perfect, and like most of my travels with Delta, was never fixed it place until it was all over. I started with a 125k SkyMiles award ticket (mostly on Virgin Atlantic) and then switched to a paid ticket (using a bump voucher) to earn MQMs. My Global Upgrades cleared both ways and I even ended up taking the largest one day bump I have ever had ($6,000 – yes please, Delta)!
But today I thought I would just share quickly why I so love visiting this stunning country and while my main reason for going is to see family, the location I visit is well worth a car ride to the airport, 3 flights, a bus (or UBER) ride, a train ride, a boat ride and a bit of a walk. Take a look and btw you can click any of the photos for a full screen slide show (and keep clicking them for next, next, next).
And I leave you with I think one of the most stunning and amazing photos I may have taken ever in my life. I happened to wake up just before 4AM one day with the house flooded with light as it always is this time of year. Everything outside was so still I had to go outside and was able to take the shot below. Gosh I love points and travel! – Rene

I’m with you, René. Sweden has always been the land of enchantment for me, and the points and miles game has taken me there more times than I ever deemed I could go. Largely due to you and Lisa coaching me! Our chance meeting there has opened many doors for me, and I’m so appreciative!
Bringing our entire family (5) to Gothenburg at the end of June, via Stockholm. Can’t wait! Two are flying via Delta Skymiles awards. Couldn’t manage without them, although.. I admit, I had hoped to fly 3 of us via Skymiles awards, but simply no availability. 🙁
Just returned from Sweden! Gothenburg was enchanting, and Stockholm was great fun. We enjoyed the Paddan boat tour of Gothenburg, including the ‘Lipstick’ building, and similarly, the Hop-on-Hop Off boat in Stockholm. The highlight was the outdoor concert in the small Stockholm amusement park starring Sir Elton John for the equivalent of approx. $17. He told the audience he had started performing live 49 years ago (!) at that same amusement park and he wanted to come back during his summer European tour. He was fabulous! Everywhere we went, Swedes were friendly and of course, spoke flawless (American-style) English. We stayed with the family of our former exchange student (Stockholm) and in the Gothia Towers (Gothenburg). We couldn’t have managed to take all 5 of our family without your help in miles, etc. Thanks ever so much!
