With SkyMiles losing more and more value each day with endless hidden devaluations year after year these Delta so called “sales” are one way to extract some real value out of your diminishing returns.
This month’s chosen destination is the Caribbean (and Florida). If you have never visited SXM you really should go – it’s a blast (literally). Oh and Grand Cayman, while expensive, is just stunning (hint pay with points for your hotel). Here are the details from Delta <-LINK:

Sale Award Tickets will be priced starting at 20,000 miles round trip (plus taxes and fees) to select destinations from the contiguous 48 United States, Alaska, and Canada to Florida (excluding EYW,SRQ) and Caribbean beach destinations (BDA, ELH, HAV, FPO, GCM, MHH, NAS, ANU, BGI, BON, GND, SKB, SXM) (DL-operated).
Now clearly the downside of this sale is you are talking about the end of hurricane season. And, you are limited to mostly the month of October. And, availability may not be that great from your home town either. But if you are going to spend your hard earned Delta SkyMiles, you might as well get value where you can! – Rene

You missed the most important words “start at”. Usual airline marketing trick. One or two seats at 20,000 miles then the Sky is the limit.
@harry – I did say availability may not be that great from where you live. It is Delta SkyMiles after all 😉
Some people might be concerned about Zika virus. I have been avoiding anywhere South.
This is funny….From my location (Traverse City, MI) to Grand Caymon in November is twice as many miles than if I went in June.
Classic “bait and switch”. They have trained us to be cynical.
Just checked DTW to MIA and its 17000 round trip starting end of May. Lots of availability as I searched and found 5 seats.
Doesn’t include Grenada.
This is becoming a joke, we used to be able to fly to South America for 20K each round trip, now is 75K each way, unreal!!!!
and upsetting
Wow!
Delta- you MUST think your flying clientele is really dumb!
I checked every destination you had offered, 8 in Florida and Caribbean had NO SEATS OFFERED on your program. Even your regular Delta.com didn’t have any reduced mileage awards!
Also, as with the other legacy carriers, the manner in which mileage is accrued is very complicated. For example, I recently returned from South America. Before, I would have received about 12,000 miles. I received only 4,400 on American. I would have received the same with you.
Kind of makes you long for the days when PanAm ruled the international skies (you bought them, remember?). Obviously you didn’t buy or adapt to their award-winning service!
