I guess this really should come as a shock to no one. Delta has shown they hate Alaska and the partnership, if you can call it that, has been dying a slow death for a while. Take a look at the press release today:
A few bits. Earning on the two airlines has been meh for a while now. Those who care about frequent flyer miles tend to credit to Alaska, but those who need elite points to Delta (or the other way if you are working for Alaska status).
The key part for many of us is the last day to spend points on awards for either airline – that is 30APRIL17. Well at least now Delta does not have to pretend anymore they like Alaska and go full out attack on them – I mean more than they already are. 😉

20 min ago I got an email from AS saying they are now allowing one-way award bookings for as little as 5k miles + tax/fees. Any news on whether this means what it may imply – that one-way award travel can now be booked? Or does it just mean RT awards are only available, but each leg can be booked for as little as 5k?
@Cov – We all got it. The latter much like Delta’s 5k awards.
The only surprise is that it took so long to set an official divorce date. As the competition between DL and AS continues in Seattle it is sure to bring more good things for those of us who love connecting in Seattle when headed to destinations on the West Coast from the East Coast. Crank up those MQMs!

This may be part of the requirement for Alaska to end some relationships with its purchase of Virgin America.
The Alaska / AA relationship probably has more value to Alaska than the Alaska / DL one.
Like the doctor’s prick…its hurts a little, but you knew it was coming…but it still hurts a little. But the pain will fade. if it doesn’t mean VX is coming to ATL from LAX, DAL, AUS or something this news mean nothing to me other than havng no hope of flying anything other than DL from here.
Their airline still is looking more and more appealing from the outside (other coast) looking in
I was talking to the Alaska agent a few month ago. As I was telling them my booking code I said “D as in Delta”, she said in a kind of serious tone “We don’t like to hear that here in Alaska.” That was before the “divorce” now image how are things going to be…
