quick-tip-how-to-check-if-you-have-redeemed-an-amex-offer
THIS is a ton of savings over the years!

Let’s start with a simple one that I really love and if you are the sort of person who is “all upset” over paying large annual fees for your Delta Reserve card then you may want to take a peek at just how much you have saved over time with the AMEX “Offers to You”. Not only will this show you your totals but also the list of items and dates when you knocked them out. A simple quick tip, but a good one I use often.

No instant middle seats for me, Delta!

Next a few Delta ones you may not know about. I often get folks who are all upset because they have been “upgraded” (if you want to call it that) automatically to C+ middle seats when they really wanted the exit row seat they had picked at booking. The reason very likely is that in your default settings in your “My Delta” (must be logged in for link to work) your seat preferences are not correctly selected. For me, I always want 1st class but wait until the ticket is issued to look at each flight – that is, segment by segment, to choose if I really want to SideGrade to C+.

There you are, full list of flights!

Then we have two “I bet you didn’t know” Fly Delta APP tips. The first one is seats. Most folks say they hate to have to go back to the flight page to look at seats for other flights unlike on Delta.com where you can simply drop down the list of all the segments. Well did you know (see big red arrow) if you click on any of the flight numbers it brings up the full list inside the APP as well! This one is a real time saver.

Fare class – you can’t hide from me!

Lastly today we have the only way (that I know of) to find the fare basis code for a ticket you have purchased from Delta. You will NOT find it on Delta.com after it is issued (and why does Delta have to be so darn secretive with this and the hidden award charts etc.). What you have to do is to pull up the app and scroll down to “receipt” and then you can see the full breakdown. Why does this matter at all? Well if you want to SDC or other things it is good to know just what fare class you booked. Or, if you were looking for an upgrade and are confused why you are stuck in coach it may be that you are in a BASIC E fare and did not know it (say from a OTA booking site).

So there you are, four fun tips that I bet you did not know. Did you know them all? Vote in the poll below or comment and let me know just how “smart” you are! 🙂 – René

How do I get a list of fare classes and the related perks, or lack thereof?

Hi Rene, I gotta admit that one or two tips were new to me. So you did a good job!
Due to one of the last few changes of the app’s look I missed the functionality of switching between a trip’s flights to see all the seat maps. So thanks for pointing it out how to find the list.
What I didn’t like was the change on delta.com where you now have to open the combo box to select a different flight. Previously you could just click on different tabs. So number of needed clicks has increased.
Well, that was the one tip new to me. But there is one other thing I don’t fully get. The fare code is easily shown on the flight details page, isn’t it? I mean I see date, flight number, scheduled departure and arrival times (just as shown on your screenshot), and directly under the passenger name(s) I see the seat number, cabin class and the fare code letter “V”, “K”, or whatever.
So if I am not interested in the fare details (breaking up total sum into all those fees and stuff) then I don’t need to bring up the receipt(s), right?

Sorry, Rene, but I can’t agree with you on the iamex offers. I have used exactly one of these offers in all the years I’ve had both the platinum card and the reserve card. And, yes, I check them all the time. I don’t shop at any of the stores, including SAMs. It may be that I’m not much of a shopper but I just can’t bring myself to spend $500 at Bendel’s so that I can get a $50 credit.
