While there is a very nice Delta Sky Club in the San Diego SAN Airport, a better choice is to visit the AirSpace lounge.

Just head toward gates 20-32 and you will, in a very lonely corridor, find the entrance to the lounge.

This is a shared club space for a number of airlines. AA says on their site: “Admirals Club members, primary Citi Executive cardholders and all Oneworld eligible guests may access the AirSpace Lounge.”

But the real star of the show, if you will, comes if you happen to hold the non-Delta AMEX Platinum personal or business cards.

airspace 10 dollar credit card

Why? Free $10 credits for each person who joins you (up to 2 guests). Not a bad deal for food off the menu or top shelf drinks (well drinks are free).

Check-in is somewhat different with 3 bank teller-like stations. I was welcomed, given the credit card and told it was good for this visit or another one.

The lounge is basically a large U shaped box with the bar area straight ahead from the entrance.

The food service area is all along the back of the club with both table and bar service.

The menu is limited but interesting and I tried the Antipasto choice (sorry no photo) and it was quite nice along with a house wine.

The self service area is in the center of the club with coffee and some other limited snacks.

Left of entrance is seating that is almost Sky Club like with power everywhere. They have really done this well and it is such a smart move for any modern club. There are two laptops for common use as well as a laser printer.

You have a rather wide selection of papers and magazines in a number of languages since this club is also the JAL club for SAN airport.

Lastly there are shower facilities also (unlike the Sky Club) so should you wish to clean up you will have to visit this lounge. I have to say I really like this club. I like the features and the choices. The wifi was respectable and worked as well.

I guess if you have both Sky Club access and a non-Delta AMEX Platinum card I would start here and then, before your flight, move over to the Sky Club and enjoy some time on the inside patio until time to fly! – René

Rene’, our son lives in San Diego and we have been in this club many times. One time I made the mistake of entering with my Admirals Club membership, and then you don’t get the $10 food credit.

For the AMEX Platinum Card holder this is a lot better than the Sky Club. Air Space allows card member and 2 guests free entry where Delta only allows card member and charges $29 for any guest.

@Sam – Agree and both guests ALSO get the $10 in lounge credit as well 😉 #Winning

I’ll have to try this club! My last visit to the Sky Club in SAN was interesting – the bartender (and I’m not exaggerating) poured vodka into my drink using what amounted to a thimble. I actually thought it was a joke at first, but he was dead serious. A single pour worked out to about 2 teaspoons – no joking.

    Rene,
I have the AmEx Plat Card with Priority Pass access. I don’t find AirSpace lounge on PP’s list of airport lounges. Are there other clubs Platinum gets me into beside Centurion, Delta and PP? Sorry if you have posted this elsewhere on your blog and thanks for all you do for fellow travelers!

@DDiamond – This is not a PP lounge but you do have access via non-Delta AMEX Platinum card.
