This week I am continuing my series of Delta 1st class meal reviews. This one I often choose even though it is a cold choice vs the often other hot choice. Here is why:
It’s fresh, crisp and filling. Delta does salad really well, I have to say. In this one you get snap peas, quality lettuce, chives as well as potatoes (with skin) and eggs and clearly Turkey that was quite nice and of ample if not abundant quantity.
This meal is not served with bread but rather with La Panzanella multigrain bread sticks. This also really works and adds a nice crisp crunch to a meal that has very little crunch. You can see thought has gone into the little details with this meal choice. Impressive.
If I were to be nit picky I would say the only thing is the flavors, at altitude, are a little on the bland-ish side but then again that is why they provide salt and pepper on the tray! 😉
The tomato soup choice I understand as a pairing to have a contrasting flavor profile to enhance the salad but I am just not a fan of this Delta soup. It is just weird in some way. Maybe you are a bigger fan of it than I am.
Delta tends to rotate what cookie they provide from Dancing Deer and I like just about all of them from the double chocolate to the this offering the toffee almond one. Again I am just impressed by the quality and thought process of this desert choice.
Overall if you select this option I think you will be pleased. My only real critique is that I still hate the faux wooden trays Delta uses system wide. They are often dirty feeling and just look so “trailer park” to me. I know, really nothing to complain about when the meal is this good! – René

Glad to know I’m not the only one that doesn’t care for Delta’s “hipster” trays.
While I wouldn’t go so far as to call them “trailer park” looking, they look almost identical to the trays we had at my Junior High School.
I’m looking forward to some of the meals you are talking about. My two most recent left a great deal to be desired. ATL to COS for “Dinner” at 1181 miles. All that was left when FA got to me was “Asian Chicken Salad”. Cook must have been able to get three meals out of one chicken breast. Not much food. No bread, just seasoned “crackers”. Brownie was good. Today on way home, Bacon Cheese sandwich just didn’t taste good and both egg and bacon looked suspicious as to what they really were. Delta is saving money on both content and portions just as many of us are having to pay to get a 1st class seat. Sorry, Rene. I know you don’t like to hear that, but that’s only way to get 1st nowadays.
