In many ways it is noteworthy to include in this run review getting through security. Who would have ever dreamed this would become the nightmare it has grown into and that folks would end up sleeping on cots at the airport in MAY like it was a blizzard outside that had grounded all the jets.
For Texas Yankee and I we breezed through the check point for Delta E gates in Terminal 2 where the Sky Club is located about half way down the concourse. But I want you to notice several things in the opening shot. Sure the lines for TSA PreCheck and standard are both just about nothing but there is more that is so ironic (I feel an Alanis Morissette song coming on). But first look at the difference between my 5 AM departure and the lines when I returned from my run at 5 PM
Ouch. Talk about #IHateTheWait! Oh and it gets a bunch worse. Now this is not a big checkpoint so if we pan to the right and look at the standard line we see:
Ouch – Ouch! And with this long snaking line, when you get to the front, then you have the pleasure of entering into the gerbil lines that take even longer. But that is standard lines with those not smart enough to invest in PreCheck right? Er, well…
Ouch, Ouch – OUCH! When the PreCheck line is snaking all the way down and blocking access to front line agents we have a serious problem. And this at a smaller check point for Delta gates. But again did you notice the stupidest thing about this entire set of photos? Let me zoom in for you in case you missed it:
Yep, the sign telling folks to sign up for TSA PreCheck is pointing TOWARDS all those who already HAVE PreCheck. Uh, hello, McFly! And when you think about it, if they did have it pointing the right way to tell the folks in the standard line about how great PreCheck is all they have to do is see the other line is almost as bad as their line. Sigh.
Folks, this summer is going to be a mad house and a mess. I urge you to get to the airport early and, one way or another, get lounge access so that if you do end up with 2 hours to kill (i.e. finding no TSA lines) you will not be stuck at the gate.
Next up, my 777 Delta One experience to Japan. Here is a hint – it was great! – René

Was there a premium cabin/elite line as well? How long was that one compared to the other two?
@M – I could not see it. Must have been bad.
This is a total TSA scam. The are making this hard of ordinary folks to get more money. Think about it. Why all of sudden is this happening.
ugh. I must fly to ord and back Thursday – Friday for a funeral. I may have to cut the funeral service short just to get back to ORD and get through Pre in time … swell.
Have a three hour connection at ORD in July (AMS-ORD-CVG). I have GE and PreCheck, but the other two people traveling with me do not. Hopefully we’ll make it. If things are still that bad by then, I may ask DL for a reroute. Hate to do it, especially since KLM operates a 747 AMS-ORD.
