Welcome to a weekly feature on the Eye of the Flyer blog. Each week this series covers in a “rookie” way either a Delta or travel related theme and attempts to break down to a basic level each topic. You can read up on all the previous posts HERE. Now on to this week’s feature.
Gosh I hate spam – don’t you? But did you know there is good spam? And if you are just letting say your G-Mail auto dump your spam ever 30 days or so without checking it you could be missing out on some sweet point chances? Like what?
Well I am clearly not talking about the 5.5M from a Nigerian prince that is just waiting to be sent to you for a small fee. No, I am talking targeted “spam like” offer from the airlines, hotels as well as credit card offers. Let’s look at one that came in via e-mail yesterday from Delta:
Now as for this nice 2x offer from Delta & SPG it was all over the blogs. But some of these offers are not as well advertised or the blogs just don’t see them as a blogworthy offer but you may benefit. So with Delta, to get these spam like offers, make sure you log in to your “My Delta” and in the “My Profile” look for:
This way you will get some offers that are really pure junk, and some that may end up even in your spam folder (a reason to check), but you may also find a few gems worth taking Delta up on.
But many times they are NOT splashed everywhere or the they are targeted directly to you. Also yesterday a number of blogs mentioned the targeted Citi offer. Disappointingly I was only targeted for a 2500 point offer vs. the 5000 most others got. However, even 2.5k is higher than zero k, right. You see my point. And then there are other goodies like:
For the longest time the Chase BANK INK offer was either 40 or 50k. They only mailed out 60k offers but thankfully for a while now the 60k offer has become the new stock offer and it is a good one. But, I have seen reports of mail offers for 70k! The point is even mail spam can be worth checking to see if you got it. How do you get these mail offers you ask? Much the same way you have chosen to “opt in” for the Delta spam you can, on most banks you have a relationship with, go to their web site and choose to be digitally and by mail sent marketing spam.
Now I know what you are thinking. You are saying I get way too much already. I don’t have time to sift through my junk mail and my spam folder even once a month. Well, I can understand that. But if that is your call, just know you may be tossing out a chance to score some really valuable points offers that you may regret not taking advantage of when you go to book that next award trip! – René
