The Freddie awards last year in Atlanta was in so many ways monumentally depressing. For Delta to host the most prestigious frequent flyer event of the year and then to tell bloggers like Brian from TheGate that “if Delta Air Lines did win an award that they were not doing their job correctly” makes me so sad (funny how other airlines and hotels etc. want to win each year). Clearly Delta does not feel they need to reward loyalty anymore as folks will fly Delta anyway. Time will tell if they are right or not.
Anyway, I will not be able to attend this year’s Freddie Awards but I doubt I will miss much Delta related. My 99.99% sure guess is that, just like last year, Delta will not even be nominated to win anything (and thus have no shot at winning awards). The only thing Delta has won in the past few years was a “made up” award for SPG Crossover Rewards and that very likely will go away if SPG is Marriott’ed in the end one day.
Nor will I be at the Delta charity Jet pull this year to be held on 6 MAY 2016 in Atlanta as the “press” team was not invited back to try to compete again in the annual event.
This too is really sad as the press team did raise a nice bit of cash for charity and the event was a bunch of fun plus a chance to mingle and chat with Delta folks. I am told Delta has invited back a select group of Diamonds to compete again but at this point there is no posting like last year on the refreshed SkyMiles Experience web site on Delta.com to allow others to bid with SkyMiles to attend the jet pull. Again, just really sad Delta!
But what I will attend that I normally don’t is the FTU Signature event in Las Vegas <-LINK the weekend right after the Freddie Awards on April 29 – May 1st. I will be speaking about:
- Introduction to Creative Spending
- Redeeming Delta SkyMiles
- Introduction to Mileage Running : Cost and Benefits
- Credit Card Applications, Bonuses and Retention Offers
- Avoiding Credit Card Shutdowns, Financial Reviews and Customer Service Levels
I am working on my presentations this weekend and I am really excited to share with you so many things that I have never posted on the blog (some things you just cannot share online). There are still tickets available to attend (see link above) but I would not wait much longer if you are planning on going to get yours before they are all gone! – René

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed last year’s event. Maybe we were too much competition for them? 🙂
See you in Vegas!
FTU… lol, I thought it was something NSFW. 🙂
Anyway, THANK YOU for the giveaway – I was #16 for the HOOUs.. so cool to actually win something. But reading your blog is also cool – I’ve scored brownie points by pointing folks your way.
Keep up the good work, Rene!
Can’t make Vegas. Any word on when Chicago’s is opening up for registration?
Also a winner, (HOOU #137 a couple weeks ago…BTW, can you resend the email, I missed the first one to spam filtering), and appreciate the sharing of knowledge on this blog, helps take the sting out of each new “enhancement” from the mothership. You bet I’m looking forward to Chicago!
@John – Chicago should open up soon. I will post about it. What post were you the winner and what email did you use (don’t see the one from the current comment).
Post #137 for the March 6th HOOU random drawing. If you would send a repeat message, I’ll watch my inboxes and respond off the blog. Thanks 🙂
@John – Seeing #137 as Patrick M not John.
