Chicago and Lake Michigan

Before today’s SWAG Saturday drawing I wanted to pop up just a few amazing photos from my milagerun from a few weeks ago. I don’t plan to break it down but at ~3 CPM it was a great value and some very tough upgrades to score (I missed one leg even with #TeamBoardLast in play).

My route was from Chicago (ORD) to New York (LGA). Then from JFK on to Salt Lake (SLC) and then finally ending up in New Orleans (MSY) before turning back the same way.

You can click on any of the shots for a full screen slide show and once open, right click them for full screen.

Not from my run but it’s a Delta 747 in DTW!

I have to say I never ever get tired of looking out the window at altitude. The earth below is just as stunning each time I see it. A mileage run may be all about the points and value but taking the time to enjoy the “ride” is also one of the reasons to enjoy a “fun run”! – René

I have been a Silver my entire working life and it is so worth it. I have tried many times to upgrade to Gold but always fall short. Silver is about working the benefits to your advantage and that is exciting for me. The challenge to see if I can work a bonus when otherwise I would not!

You had a spectacular view of Manhattan and of the Rockies.

My favorite views are flying West once you get to the Rockies to the West Coast. The views from east of the Rockies are not as good as those west of the Rockies. I love flying over southern Utah.

Seeing views like that is precisely why I almost always get a window seat as well. If it works out based on the trip I’m taking, I will even pick flight times that will work better for the view. For photography I also carefully choose which side of the plane I’ll be on and what the view will be from that side of the plane as well as which side the sun will be hitting to avoid the glare from the sun. Once I’m in the air, I spent most of the flight looking out the window and often taking pictures.

I have a collection of my window shots from various flights here: https://plus.google.com/collection/svMrb

Rene, Weighing in late on this flu thing – but wanted to note that at least one recent study my physician husband admired stated that around half of participants were vitamin D deficient, which would lower ones immunity to incoming viruses. Said hubster is now taking 2000 units of D daily. I take 4000 daily and almost never get flu- though I also do flu shot in October each year. Ask your own doc of course. Unfortunately no great evidence for Vitamin C recently- though NOT getting scurvy is still quite nice!

Had an amazing trip from MSP to SAN two weeks ago. I was sitting by the window on first and the day was so clear that you could see everything. The pilot was awesome and telling us where we were getting to 5 minutes before. I took several pictures from Aspen, Vail and the most amazing from the Grand Canyon. The views from the plane were just unbelievable.

If you have the choice, always sit INFRONT of the wings. Why, you may ask…. Well, I never manage to get a decent photo behind because the exhaust gasses from the engines distort the view. Upfront is much better
