Last night I blogged about the amazing deal on Delta.com if you happened to have a Delta AMEX card and could use the PWM or Pay With Miles perk from holding the credit card. I have had a bunch of questions from readers as to if Delta will honor the offer. I feel Delta will and here is why.
First off the wording on Delta.com is very clear as you can see from the screen shot above and from this link on their web site. It shows, and as I have proven flying on flights where I spent points to pay for 1st class tickets, that you can earn points even when the prices goes to ZERO, that is, you are using points to offset all the price of the ticket. Now you may not earn any SkyMiles if the price goes that low, per the wording, but you will clearly earn MQMs and MQSs per Delta.com.
Plus, again in my testing last year under the rules that took effect as of 1JAN15, when I booked with SkyMiles PWM or “Pay With Miles” to pay for a ticket I earned:
- Full SkyMiles including class of service bonus
- Full MQMs including class of service bonus
- Crossover Reward points
- SkyBonus points
I expect it will be the same with this latest offer from the airline. Part of the reason I say this is due to the fact that Delta no longer publishes the SkyMiles award charts on their website. The price for a ticket is simply what the Delta.com’s booking site tells you it is. If it is expensive in points, that is the price. If it is cheap in points, that is the price. That is the double edged sword if you will about NOT publishing award charts and having a “live currency” – the price is the price! This time the price was as low as 250 SkyMiles for a ticket. After all Delta told us that:
“Delta’s expanded search capabilities and calendar at delta.com offer more flexible and accurate view of Award prices. – Delta CORP” [bold mine – from February 6, 2015]
Delta also has a history of honoring great offers in the past (unlike other airlines). I think it will be the same with this latest sale. I also expect all the medallion perks you have to apply as well and once you have a confirmed ticket in hand you should be good to go. Either way I would wait for a day or so before you book other flights and hotels just in case.
So congratulations to all who got in during the amazing Delta SkyMiles sale offer of 2016! – René

Not sure if they’re trying to fix whatever bug they had (since they seemed to fix that) – (or this may have been a sale, that was my assumption when purchasing so it should be honored since I had no way of knowing otherwise), but I can’t log in to my account at the moment. Earlier today I could log in but couldn’t see my trips. Now I can’t log in at all.
