I just got notice from a reader that the flight he was on was just clipped by another Delta jet in snowy Newark EWR. I reached out to Delta and was told:
“After landing at Newark from Detroit, the wingtip of Delta flight 1409, an MD88, came into contact with a Boeing 767, while that aircraft was being towed. No injuries have been reported. There are 148 customers and five crew on DL1409; no customers were onboard the 767.” – Betsy Talton, Delta Air Lines
I asked what impact this will have on the two jets and the flights for tomorrow and was told “There is a spare available“. Here are some other photos of the conditions in EWR from RenesPoints reader:
Clearly the important thing is that no one was hurt but it seems two Delta jets will be out of service while they are checked / repaired. – Rene

that could cost close to a million to repair and check out the planes not to mention the time involved dealing FAA minutia! and then there are the passengers with back injuries!
One thing is for sure – there’s no way that they clips wings (‘wing tips’ as the story title mentions)… A 767’s wing tip will pass clear over the top of an MD-88’s fuselage. 🙂
