Those of us who live in the United states can join the Skyteam Flying Blue (FB) program. I strongly suggest this for a number of reasons. First off, the perks as it can help with bag fees (50% discount vs non-member on intra European flights). Beyond that, if you happen to be flying a Delta business class award ticket, you may just get some FB points if you enter in that number in your reservations.
Well as most readers know, a number of us were kicked out of Delta’s SkyBonus business rewards program this year due to not having 5 employees who flew at least once, at any price, on Delta. Yep, it did not matter if you spend $50,000 with Delta as a sole proprietor – Delta hates small business and you are out. So why not give Flying BlueBiz a shot. But there were some problems with this idea.
The first is that if you enter information that you live in the USA you are auto-directed over to SkyBonus. Well that is not where I want to be. But, being a greedy little points collector, I changed my country to Sweden and my language to English (even though I read and speak Swedish) because the Swedish ZIP codes are much like those in the USA. Then I just filled out all my info with my USA address etc. Seemed like a good idea right?
The only problem with my grand plan was that approval and joining is not immediate. A “real” person has to approve you for the program a.k.a. they will get back to me with a yes or a no. Well…
And we have a NO as I have to use SkyBonus as that is the Skyteam business program where I live. Grrrrr don’t they know Delta hates small business and does not want me? Sigh. This was going to be perfect.
At least, due to the computer issues the last few days of December 2015 Delta Skybonus has kept the program open for a few extra days.
The result was that I got credit for a flight early in 2016 and was able to request one last award for 10 more HOOU coupons and stranded a mere 90 SkyBonus points with Delta. THAT I can live with as a good-bye gift to them. 😉
But this did get me thinking. Many of you do have your address outside the USA. Maybe to be MQD exempt or you live outside the USA but want to use SkyMiles. For you there is a chance you CAN join Flying BlueBiz and simply enter your FB BIZ number in the Fly Delta APP even.
The program is very different earnings than SkyBonus and you earn credits that can be spent basically as cash for award tickets. It rewards those who spend the most but again if you can join, and earn points free for your Delta flights, why not. Free points are free points right? – René
