Delta re-announced the deal that Delta is again getting more E190 jets as well as more 737-900ers. You can read the PR release HERE on the Delta PR-SPIN hub.
Here is the deal folks. Richard Anderson himself said in the Q3 earnings call: “Those orders will be canceled“ and yet, apparently, they never were canceled with Boeing. Shocker? No not really. It seems like this order never really was dependent on Delta forcing a bad contract on the pilots who keep us safe up in the air. Humm… Will be fun to see what the VP’s and CEO says tomorrow during the investors day broadcast!
I have to say the way Delta is treating this highly respected group of professional men and women really bothers me. If Delta thinks they can treat them as arrogantly as they have treated those in the SkyMiles frequent flyer program, they are about to enjoy a rude awakening. We shall see!
In another move that could have been more routes for Delta pilots to fly we have KLM soon to fly a route between AMS and SLC. An interesting Skyteam move under the current environment.
Then on to Jet. Oh, Jet. This is yet one more route that will not be flown by Delta men and women. Oh and don’t get too excited as a Delta frequent flyer to fly this route. You had better believe that Delta “additive prices” will apply so we will be paying for one award ticket to get from wherever to AMS and then another award ticket to fly Jet from AMS to India. Plus, if you have been around the program for a while, back in the day when you could book Jet with SkyMiles, accomplishing this was an all but impossible task. Sigh.
Then lastly we have Delta finally showing us a photo of the new Delta PJs. They look OK to me other than the “jail house” looking socks. I really wish Delta PR folks when I broke the story weeks ago would have shared the photo. Maybe it was not ready. My biggest issue with this new outfit is where to change. It is not like Delta ONE bathrooms are all that large to begin with.
OK enough of a rant for today. Delta has been pouring it on pretty thick the past few weeks and it was time to set matters straight and get beyond the PR spin they have pushed out! – René

What irks me is the pajamas aren’t being rolled out across business-class on long-haul routes. If I pay the not unheard airfare for $8,000 or $10,000 for business-class on premium routes I should receive pajamas. Oh yeah, I should also receive a lavatory that’s (1) big enough to use and (2) clean for the entire flight. I’ve seen outhouses used by truckers and construction workers cleaner than Delta’s lavatories.
Rene, I’m surprised you didn’t see thru the equipment order vs the pilot contract. That at best was just a junk shot to try to sway the pilots. Delta would have been very stupid to drop the order. This afternoon, I did LAX-MSP on a 737-800 that had a major air leak in the wall seam at seat 3A. It was so cold, they gave extra red blankets to all first class and had the heat to the highest level. Did they take the plane out of service at MSP? NO. Equipment is old and needs repair. How many planes have you been on lately that one of the bathrooms didn’t work? Keep Flying Delta Folks!
