It was time for me to upgrade. My little 8400mAh battery brick had served me well but it had some issues. First, while it had 2 USB outputs, only one was 2A and it was only good for a few charges.
I picked up this VINSIC VSPB206 <-LINK because I wanted more power. I wanted to be able to charge many devices fast and if I did not have a chance to charge it over night (like on a redeye) that the next day I could still charge my stuff. This one does that well.
I tested it on a recent trip and it charged my phone from nearly dead 3 times as well as my wife’s phone twice and had power to spare to charge a tablet after that almost to full. Not bad at all for the price of this unit (sub $30).
So it does what it should. Are there any draw backs or “cons”? A few. First, there is a little LED showing the percentage of charge both when using it and charging it. That little feature seems all but worthless. When you plug things into it, it quickly drops to 2% and stays there until the thing is empty. When recharging, it quickly goes to 99% and sticks there until it flips over to 100% telling you it is fully charged. Then again the LED display is not why I got it.
The only other bits that bugged me about the unit is that the USB cord that came with it is short. I like a LONG cord but I have a bunch of USB cords so no huge deal. The other issue that is an irritation is that it did not include a VINSIC wall-to-USB adapter. So if you don’t have a few extra of those laying around you may want to pick up one of these dual outlet converters (useful to have anyway).
Lastly it is a big brick and not light. It is the size of my NOTE4 phone and twice as thick. It weighs a good full pound (maybe a tiny bit more).
Now please understand I am not trying to hammer the bad points but make a really fair evaluation of all the bits that could matter to you. The bottom line is this is a HUGE battery and will recharge your stuff over and over and over again on a single charge. It does what I want it to do, that is, keep my phones and tablets working. I would buy another one of these again I guess is what I am trying to say. – René
