I may have to rethink IHG. While I have spent the past few years as an SPG guy, qualifying again and again by staying 25+ nights, with IHG all I have to do is hold the Chase IHG card and I get free Platinum status (now their mid level status).
During the Delta Elite Mileage Run I wanted to stay close to the airport for my morning flight out. Normally I would be looking at the Sheraton or Westin LAX but I had a free night coupon that I get each year from my IHG card that was soon to expire so this was a great chance to use it, get great value, and get a chance to check out this hotel.
I was recognized as a Platinum member at check-in and upgraded to the club level standard KING room.
The room was nothing special beyond most king rooms but was clean, neat and the A/C was working and at a pleasant level.
The bed was soft, maybe not Westin “heavenly bed” soft but just fine.
The Desk area and chair worked and there were power outlets readily available. The TV worked and picture was clear. Again, just worked well.
The bathroom, while not large, was clean and I have no complaints.
And the view, for an AVgeek was perfect with jets sliding by to land at LAX.
The real star for this stay was the club room both in the evening and for breakfast.
The attendant in the room was amazing, kind and helpful. The spread of choices was also good enough that it could have worked as a light dinner! Basic wine and beer was included complimentary as well. Very impressive.
Breakfast the next day was hot croissant with bacon and eggs. Num. I only had one but I could have eaten a few of them.
The shuttle ran timely and I did not have to wait long for pickup. Drop off in the morning was equally pleasant other than a leaking AC unit in the rear of the van that needed some attention.
Overall I really enjoyed my stay and would go back in a heartbeat. I was really impressed how they took care of a Platinum IHG guest and stays like this make me really think about where to spend my hotel dollars and stays next year! – René

I really do think that IHG is a bit underrated. With their credit card and platinum status, you really do get treated well in my experience! Sure you won’t get a top tier 5 star suite like you might with SPG or Hyatt, but I have been very happy with the service and hard product I have experienced in my few months alone of being an IHG platinum. Great review, Rene!
