The only way I would ever consider this one is if I could apply a Global Upgrade to it and do notice you are looking at an overnight in JNB but I think that would be needed as a break anyway.
Bottom line is December is coming soon as well as 1JAN16 when we see our elite number reset (until rollover hits that is). To pick up 20K+ for one long trip is not bad at all. Here is what I found:
Cost $710
20,983 MQMs at 3.3CPM
Bookable on Delta.com via KAYAK.com for lowest CPM <– LINK
Anyone going to go for this beast? Also note you can depart as early as 1DEC if you want to make a vacation out of this! – Rene

I’m tempted but don’t need the MQM’s. At 18 hours 45 minutes I am afraid I would lose my mind without a flat bed. I know first world problems right?
@Graydon – In same boat. I am (will be) rolling over DM and not sure about next year so done booking MORE runs for 2015.
@rene Tough to take advantage of these (i.e., getting to/from IAH) since most MSP tix are always at a premium.
@FLN – Go down day before on AVOIS points. Simple! Cheap! EDIT: Just looked and you can fly AA direct for ~$250 and credit those flights to Alaska 🙂 So all in you are still under 1k thus even with position cost as a net zero gain (it’s not) you are under 5CPM total.
c’mon Rene … man up. Lets go for it!
Done and booked! Global Upgrade waitlisted both ways.
@Mike – Sweet! Gosh I hope you clear my friend. Enjoy the FunRun!
I have followed this blog for about 6 months and have never been able to take advantage of one of these. Just booked this one. This is my first mileage run and it will put me to DM for 2016. Just learning this hobby and am grateful for the help and advice. Thanks Rene
MQD is $585, so you are earning 6k miles… Would have earned more than 40k miles last year. KLM and BA also have $700+ fares. I wonder how many miles I would earn… AA fare is $1016, codeshare BA flights actually, but as Ex Plat, I would earn 43K miles. Can’t apply upgrade cert due to codeshare.
@AL – That is for SkyMiles. No one would EVER do a MR for SkyMiles. Pointless. We MR for MQMs and they are as stated!
I’m standing in ATL customs having just completed this. Great trip and it is possible to redeem GUCs, although it’s risky!
I just booked this, but the fare has gone up to $1055.90. Still a great deal!
