delta points monthly news letter

I suggested at the end of last May’s Newsletter that June would just maybe be a bit more quiet as Delta may not have time to break too much more in SkyMiles land, but they did find time to destroy one more tool in our quest to find LEVEL 1 seats (in May, but we did not find out till June). Notably the Sky Clubs improved big time this month (about time). Let’s take a look at what you may have missed from June in Delta land:

➥ Have small Delta vouchers to burn? Think two one-ways vs. one round trip ticket?

➥ NEVER book RT Delta award tickets departing outside USA – how to lower the fees.

➥ Some big changes coming to Delta Points – the “Mileage Run” blog!

➥ $30 Lyft referral promotion returns for new users. Worth it or expire too quick?

➥ I just gave away 15,000 Delta MQMs to a friend (and how you can do this too).

➥ Are Delta Mileage Runs still worth it anymore? (a hard look at the numbers)

➥ Better SkyClub drinks & more, Delta Suntrust downgrades, hidden Delta seats!

➥ Time for 3 new cards for my travel family results 2 instant approvals and 1 call.

➥ Another unannounced Delta SkyMiles devaluation (no more mixed awards)!

➥ Delta CONFIRMS no more mixed awards but has not implemented changes.

➥ CONFIRMED: $50 is the sweet spot for new AMEX GOLD card benefit with Delta!

➥ A PSA to SBN flyers – less Delta 1st class CRJ700/900’s from now on (I want to cry)!

➥ Delta inks deal for 20 Embraer E-190 & 40 additional new 737-900ERs for 140 total.

➥ Is Delta engaging flyers more due to surveys? Could the J.D. Power survey be why?

➥ 1,000 Bonus SPG points weekend promo & other SPG points you don’t want to miss.

➥ Did e-mail from the new Delta Vice President of Customer Loyalty make you giggle?

➥ Even SPG  is doing FCM! Selling suite upgrades that should be free for Platinums.

➥ Do Delta flyers need to fear the IATA Cabin OK Initiative 21.5″ x 13.5″ x 7.5″ carry-on?

➥ Can SkipLagged & hidden city ticketing help with Delta awards? YES (but don’t do it)!

➥ Managing family Delta award accounts & AMEX cards? What works?

➥ Review: Delta cold Asian steak with spicy hummus salad 1st class meal

➥ The Fly Delta Android Wear App is MUCH improved (but not perfect).

➥ Can you get the Delta AMEX Platinum card if you NOW have Delta AMEX Gold card?

➥ FREE stuff w/ Delta AMEX cards NYC today, ATL tomorrow & how to check your area

➥ The end of #SkunkyGate – Welcome “The Bar” at the Delta Sky Club.

➥ Delta “streamlines” ticket checkout page for users and MAX up-sells for add-ons!

➥ What is best DeltaONE seat on the Delta 767 jet? It is as clear as night & day!

➥ To earn bonus points is it “apply by” or is it “approved by” date that matters?

➥ Even Delta’s own CEO has no idea what Delta calls their re-branded OFCMB seats

➥ Lufthansa survey thinking outside the box – Sleeper, seating & social zones on jets?!

➥ DeltaONE Sky Club ATL pre-flight dining & drink choices (a work in progress at best).

➥ Finding Level 1 Delta business class awards to Europe (Sweden) – Part 1

➥ Sunday reader guest post: Is it worth it to be Delta Platinum as a leisure traveler?

➥ Virgin Atlantic Upper Class outbound via Manchester – Part 2

And so half of 2015 is gone! Wow, that went quick. I have just about locked up “double Diamond Medallion status” that means nothing other than the fact that I will rollover enough MQMs to be Diamond again as soon as I meet the $25,000 AMEX exempt spending again (will be simple, again). BTW, if you happened to miss January,   February,   March,   April,  &  May’s  newsletter, you can catch up – René

Hello from the UK. I’ve been Gold, on and off, for the past ten years with Virgin and can’t remember the last time I got a free upgrade anywhere. I’ve had two, possibly three. I flew three times with delta in feb and got upgraded every time (US / Canada). So, it got me thinking…. Which would be the better Scheme to be in? Delta or Virgin? How much effort would it take to retain Gold with Virgin (4 Upper class flights only) vs Delta? An idea for a future post, I’d imagine 🙂
PS: I’m brand loyal when it benefits me most 🙂

Geez while we are on the topic of future post, I recently experimented with booking 3 hotels using Delta App and ended up getting about 1,000 byemiles (no big deal) but I also got my rooms for slightly less or the same as if I had booked through some other website. Not sure if this is always the case but it was this time. One of them was a Marriott facility so I got their points too. One of the other nice things is the hotel reservation showed up under my delta trips so had easy access to info. You do prepay for the rooms but can cancel up to 72 hours in advance.
