I am not vegan. I like a good steak. I like steak hot, BBQ and cold. I have many times in the past talked about how the cold steak with potato salad that Delta served was just outstanding and I wanted more like this. So when I found out another cold steak choice was up I was most pleased.
This one was interesting and I really did enjoy it, but would like some tweaks. The beef, as you can maybe see in the photo was prepared well, but was of middle-ish quality. It was also VERY thin and really could have used a few more slices if you are going to go THAT thin.
The salad part was great. A good amount and a nice mix of beans and different greens. Really very nice. Then there was the spicy hummus that was in place of a dressing. It has some real heat to it and I liked it, but would have enjoyed a tiny cup of some kind of dressing as well to make it really good.
I also really like the fruit and cheese side dish Delta presents. Works very well with a glass of red wine. Most times it is fresh and perfect. This time my cheese was a bit dry but this again was the exception not the rule. The dessert, an apple tart type slice, was also fine but a little dry as well. I really like the chocolate square much better plus it is sorta “encased” in chocolate keeping the inside cake moist. I never get tired of chocolate cake (do you)?
Overall I would try this again and hope to see if the next round is as good or better than this one.
Speaking of steak, on the return of this trip I again got the braised beef short ribs with sauce, mashed potatoes and baby carrots. Most times this also is quite good and I have only one time been disappointed with the quality of the beef.
Salad was small but fine and fresh. Roll was fresh and the Gelato was OK but just not my favorite. I think with a citrus type after dinner drink that could be very refreshing.
I have said it many times before that Delta just does inflight food right. Sure there are some tweaks I would like to see but most times, as long as your choice is not gone, I think you will be happy with what Delta serves you! – René

Having recently done Virgin Atlantic, KLM, and SAS, all in first-class or business-class, I can say the food, when catered well, is better in Delta first-class domestically and internationally in Delta-one.
@FNT – Could not agree more. Virgin comes close but KLM is meh at best. Have not been on a SAS jet for many years sad to say 😉
Delta’s food is good. I even like some of the meals in international economy. Delta serves nice cuts of beef in business/D1 they just overcook it. Other airlines can serve a fillet medium maybe even medium rare. When I ask delta FAs not to overcook beef they almost always say they have no control over that. It seems a shame for delta to buy nice fillets if they cannot account for varrying tastes.
Agree generally Delta food is good but the Blue Smoke choices on Delta-One JFK-LHR are horrible. The overuse of “pork” – as it is described on the menu is off putting in the first place and the safe choice of pulled chicken on a bun is so overwhelming in flavors and smells (pickled coleslaw, jalapenos, barbecue sauce which would strip the enamel off your teeth) that even the cabin crew were watery eyed at the pungency of it all.
