delta news

It is hard to believe Q1 of 2015 is almost over. As always it has been interesting to see what news Delta has made and others have said about the airline. Let’s look at a few you may or may not have seen.

Perhaps after my publicly shaming Delta’s PR folks, they have once again started using Flyertalk after a long hiatus. They posted about the expanded airlines we can now can book on the AMAZING new Delta award booking calendar as well as covering the issue that should be fixed today with Virgin Australia. Do keep in mind you MUST compare the award charts I have posted on the blog as many times, as we know, Delta will over charge you for two award tickets and the only way to know is to compare the numbers that you are only paying for ONE ticket!

I just love watching the fight between plucky Alaska airlines (who may one day be swallowed up by Delta). The good part for us is that competition with airlines like this that have a real interest in winning flyers means better choices for us. Gosh, I hope Alaska stays independent and keeps the “fires” burning against Delta!

From a Yahoo Finance contributor we get an interesting post about why so many love to hate Delta. Social media is not really a strong point for Delta. In fact, this year compared to last Delta is isolationist and just about turned off interaction on social media after a number gaffs last year (like the Africa one). I wish Delta would do more on social like American does!

The TSA PreCheck program now has over 1 million members. Seems like a bunch, but still not the bulk of the flying public. As I talked about this past week if you are just a Delta elite who has been enjoying the FREE perk of it, you had BETTER get your own KTN and FAST or you are going to be shuttled more and more to the common line (and no one wants that – right).

visits from delta cpus to delta points

Just because I had to know, I decided to look up how many votes vs visits from Delta CORP computers came in for my question about if Delta would win ANYTHING at the Freddie awards this year. Since there were 29 YES votes, but 20 visits from Delta computers, I will toss those votes out. Thus, as of today, we have 361 voting NO and 9 voting YES. I think we all know deep down you can not trash your frequent flyer program into oblivion and expect to win anything. Guess what, next year will be the same unless Delta starts making some positive changes including rolling back much of the damage they have done! Delta need to win back our trust – PERIOD!

Is anyone else sick of all the fees and taxes on airline tickets. I mean Delta has been quietly changing how they classify some fees away from being tied to fuel (sneaky right) but expect more and more fees from airports as they want you to pay more to fly. Grrrrrr!

Boy Delta is getting just NASTY in the fight against the IAM trying to unionize the flight attendants. From billboards to videos they are in full press to stop this from happening. Gosh, think if Delta cared as much for the frequent flyers as they did for this? Nahhh… Oh and when I made a parody video a few years back about the safety video and put it on YouTube Delta made them take it down. 🙁

I do not discus politics or take sides here on the blog, domestic or international, but having said that I do like competition. Fair or unfair is up to others to judge. I do like airlines like NAI (Norwegian International) that result in Delta lowering ticket prices as it is all about YOU and ME not mother Delta. I would care more for mother Delta if she cared for me but we know better in 2015! Anyway, this Forbes piece is a good one to look at if you want to read up on the topic.

You would not BELIEVE how many tweets, emails and questions and links I got from readers saying something like; “DID YOU SEE THIS RENE“? Yeah I saw it. It was a very nice thing to do. But here is the thing folks – it did not need to happen. If the flyer had pushed it, I mean really pushed it with Delta, I bet they would have fixed it somehow. But again, kudos to the very nice Alaska worker. It does show what an amazing airline it is as I have already talked about today.

Oh CVG. Is it time to just rename you Cincinnati regional airport? (I am so kidding). This piece is a good one and I do really like the change from CRJ200s to larger jets. I would be happy to see less flights to and from SBN if we get more big jets. That trade off is WORTH IT to me.

And that is what caught my eye for this month. April is going to be an exciting time for me personally and I am sure we will get more big news from our dearest Delta. From earnings and passenger loads to who knows what else they will “enhance” us with. I can’t wait!- René
