Tippecanoe Place South Bend Indiana delta points blog

After almost thirty years of living in the South Bend, Indiana area, I thought it was about time for me to share a few places and things you should put on your short list when visiting my “neck of the woods” as they say.

Most of them are year round or mostly year round. Either way if you have a short time to visit there are a few things that I really enjoy. I may expand this list and will pop up posts on several Fridays during the year.

“Tippecanoe Place is a house in South Bend, Indiana, United States. Built in 1889, it was the residence of Clement Studebaker, a cofounder of the Studebaker vehicle manufacturing firm. Studebaker lived in the house from 1889 until his 1901 death”

The above is a quote from Wikipedia about Tippecanoe Place. The home is amazing and massive and just such a neat place to go for a meal and to walk around and soak in local history.

One of the things I really enjoy is their Sunday brunch. They have just so much you can enjoy so go hungry as this can be your meal for the day!

You can start with an omelet with anything you want on it or do as I did and get a small one to go with all the other good lunch-ish stuff like…

Roast beef and omelet for breakfast after fresh fruit and other goodies – yes please! Mimosa along with my Tea – sure why not.

The history of the home is fascinating and I will not spoil it by telling you everything. You need to go and explore (before you eat please as much harder after such amazing food)!

If you are a fan of custom hand done woodwork, you are going to be in love with this house.

Don’t have time for a full meal (their steaks are fantastic btw) then just walk around the home and have a drink at the bar. You will not be sorry to spend time in this amazing mansion.

After your time here there are a great many things to enjoy after you drive the short distance to downtown. The South Bend Chocolate factory, if you have room, is a nice treat as well as walking along the “race” along the river. Why not see what is playing at the “Morris Performing Arts Center” and maybe take in a show. A nice way to spend a day in South Bend and more on the way in the next post! – René

Oh, I really didn’t think Delta would go there – but they did! Delusional and sad.

@Jack – First, I hope folks do come visit my fair city. Next, if you come, there are fun things to do. Next, I think a great many folks do not appreciate all they have in their own home town. Lastly, Friday afternoons are slow times on the blog and it will be fun to have a set of posts for readers to see what to do with a day in SBN! 🙂

Sadly, I will not be visiting Indiana unless and until the offensive bill that was signed into law yesterday by Governor Pence gets repealed.

The brunch looks great. We are coming to your area this year to check out Notre Dame for a college visit, brunch would be a good addition!

Great post Rene! I visited South Bend a number of times during my undergrad time at Purdue and I think many people don’t realize how beautiful Indiana is. It’s not just cornfields! But sadly like Todd S, I won’t be making any visits to my alma mater or the state until a repeal or modification that ensures all hoosiers and visitors to the state are treated equally.

Sadly, I also won’t be visiting Indiana any time soon, unless they change their laws.

René, I know exactly what you mean about attractions in your own “neck of the woods”. There is so much around us to see and we often must rely on the “locals” to point these things out to us. In this instance, you are the “local” showing us the way. Everyone should promote their home turf and announce to the world why their place is special. Otherwise, we all stand to miss so much. Thanx for your efforts.
