I am today on day two of a three day mileage run. I once again joined up with the legendary TexasYankee to collect a few MQMs and enjoy a few laughs along the way (never a dull moment with this legendary FTer)!
But you know flying Delta, while really enjoyable due to great people, nice planes, very good food, GoGo, comfortable seats and more – there are some little things they just MUST fix one of these days, but I bet they will not since there is no money to be made in these changes. I touched on some of these last year but these just drive me CRAZY. What are they?
Schedule changes. Delta is it really so hard to TELL ME when I have a flight that is going to land after my next one departs? I mean, really. You guys are amazing when it comes to changes when things go wonkie, but letting us know would just be amazingly nice.
Seats. I know you know how important seats are since you have renamed them all as a 14 point scrabble word score plus the fact you are making millions upon millions in selling them. So when you have an equipment swap and toss us out of the seat we SO carefully picked – is it really to much to ask to let us know about it?
Weather. It’s winter. Sure we watch the weather (especially since the storm of the century is about to hit the Northeast). However, your crack team does not always agree with our local meteorologists. Again, is it too much to ask to either A) put the weather warning in a more prominate spot on Delta.com or B) tell us when there is a warning that affects us? Seriously!
Fly Delta APP. The 3.whatever upgrade is much better. Truly. But you have mixed so much up-sell with the improvements that it still is beyond frustrating. You know what I need? Boarding pass quick. I mean instant. Then, gate and where my incoming bird is. The rest is nice but not critical. Give me those 1st please.
Those four really are the biggest of the big. I could add to this list but if you fix those it will make my travel SO much better and are what I really NEED as a frequent flyer and will save me time and effort.
What do you say. You tell me. What are your biggest frustrations with Delta.com, the APP or the way Delta runs things that get you from A-B? – René

This isn’t unusual with any company that provides services because often the people who work at the company don’t have the experience or history of consuming the service to best understand the customer’s needs. The same goes for hotels. Many of the staff at upscale hotels would never stay at those hotels and thus don’t have expectations of what the customers at those sorts of hotels expect and deserve. Airlines are probably true to a lesser extent.
I just love the dog picture to lead the post 🙂
But yes, the schedule change NON email is a huge pet peeve.
The Delta app is an embarrassment. I have it on my iPhone (where it constantly crashes the phone when you put the pass in a passbook) and on my Windows Phone (where it fails to provide up-to-the-moment info on itineraries, usually at the worst possible time). My greatest pet peeve with Delta right now is the lack of decent apps. (Alas, I have not tried any other airline app so perhaps they all stink, but who knows?)
I just returned from a trip on Delta, and noticed a few serious flaws in the app (on my iPhone). First, the app shows you a nice picture of your flight for the day, but no details whatsoever. Why not include the departure time, boarding time, gate, etc, on that picture? You can tap on it and eventually find more details, but it’s not obvious there’s any kind of link embedded. I could see these things before, so it seems the app has taken a few steps backwards in the efforts to improve it. Next pet peeve is the new entertainment system (should be part of the app?) that you can (supposedly) stream to your device. Lots of how-to’s, etc. on the web site, but very few links to the apps or tools to actually install and use the new system. It was very frustrating trying to figure out how to set it up – I never did get it working before we landed.
Gee, considering all that has happened in the last year, I thought the list would be longer!
Equipment swaps without a notification are the worst.
Unfortunately, I’m experiencing all listed today.
@FNT Diamond this is why companies have training programs. If they thought people could perform out of the gate that would explain what we experience sometimes. For exceptionally positive service in this world that may not be teachable, there are pieces of flair and red jackets.
The App. While it is a nice design, they really need to work out the kinks. It loads so SLOWLY.
I’m surprised the SkyClub agents don’t complain about the slowness of the app. Every time I use the app to show my boarding pass to get in, it takes forever to load and other people get backed up behind me.
But, for me the issue is that the app never loads the connecting flight info. I usually tweet Delta Assist or check the monitors.
A seat change is the worst in my book. On a recent trip I chose my seat when I made my reservation. Fine. Later, Delta changed it to a seat four rows back. I changed it back to the one I’d originally booked. About a week before my trip, Delta changed my seat, again, (same aircraft), back four rows. I wasn’t too upset, however, because it turned out that they’d given my original seat to my brother so he could sit with his family. We were all going to a family wedding.
my DL app goes nuts in and near airports and usually does not work,,, when i think i’ve got it togethere with what the app do4es then DL It changes it again for the not the best scenario
