pay with miles delta

What a crazy day this has been. If you have not been following the DeltaMileageRun blog today you have missed out BIG TIME!. I booked an amazing mileage run out of DFW this morning and then a bunch of readers have been taking advantage of the many city deals to just about all points in Europe “attack fare” deals.

Now thanks to Skymiles2015 and PWM or Pay With Miles when you have a Delta AMEX card (I know I cannot believe I am say this – but game on), and being able, according to Delta.com, to earn points when redeeming Skymiles even in coach on Delta metal, there are HUGE chances to earn MQMs.

Plus, if you think about it, by spending $400-600-ish per ticket with miles you are basically redeeming your points at low level 1 or better for each round trip (ie. 40,000-60,000 RT)! Oh and you are earning some Skymiles and many MQMs that you would not earn as a straight up award ticket! #Winning!

Some bits to keep in mind. The Skymiles you will earn on many of these runs will be almost nothing but as long as you book on Delta.com on Delta metal you are good to go for a HUGE haul of elite MQM points (and maybe a nice vacation too).

We are only 5 days in to 2015 and it sure is shaping up to be an interesting flying year! Have you booked any flights today? – René

    @Rene –

    Yes, we booked three of the ORD-DUB trips and got Upgraded to flat-beds using our GUC’s

    Now we’re helping friends and family members book SFO-DUB trips!

    We were told it is an attack on UA hubs by DELTA

    I have noticed increased level 1 international business class award space as of late. Before January 1st, I was only seeing a bunch of high bucket awards, with a few 125K awards sprinkled around.

    Specifically, transatlantic flights to LHR, and even a lot of flights with partner connections (WAS-NWI, which involves a connection to a KLM City Hopper flight in AMS, and used to cost 300K+).

    So far I’ve looked at FEB-MAY, and most months (except March, for some reason) have great availably on Sunday-Wednesday. Thursday-Saturday are all at higher buckets.

    Maybe things aren’t all bad, and Delta is sticking to its promise of increased award availability. Only time will tell.

    Examples, please. All I saw was Dublin.

    John DELTA, why would you waste a GUC on a short flight to Dublin? I know it’s tempting to use it, but dang. I hope you didn’t use one on the daytime return.

    Thanks.

    I suppose we all value flights differently, but to me, I would rather buy a second or third economy seat at a super-cheap price (say to Dublin) than fly business-class or use my miles/certificates for business-class. It’s such a short flight.

    @FNT Diamond –

    My wife has a bone disease which makes long-haul flying painful and potentially harmful to her. I do all of my MR for status to get her the bests seats available. Dublin has been on our horizon for some time…so I do not mind spending the GUC’s for her and her comfort.

    @John DELTA, Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to buy a row of coach seats and save the global upgrade certificates for a longer flight?

      @ FNT DIamond –

      It will be her only European flight this year… So, as I often do, my efforts are aimed at her happiness… as you say each person places a different value for various reasons…
