If you find on your travels you will frequent airports with Centurion Clubs either of these cards can be a real value to you for access to the clubs. You will need a same day departing or arrival boarding pass and ID to enter.
Once again American Express has shown just how good an American lounge can be. Unlike most airline domestic lounges that offer, at best, snack options, poor quality free beverages and lackluster wifi speed, the Centurion in San Francisco SFO Airport delivers and exceeds what you want.
It is located in Terminal 3 near F3 security. There is TSA PreCheck there so getting through is a breeze. Entrance is granted free for you and 2 guests via The Centurion card or non-Delta American Express Platinum card (or the business card as well) that also, coincidentally would have rebated you back for your Global entry that includes TSA PreCheck as well. If you have any AMEX card you can enter for $50.
The entrance is impressive. A wall of quality wine greets you as you exit the elevator and enter the lounge. The lounge, unlike the one in Dallas DFW airport, has a custom wine bar in lieu of a spa.
Visually it is impressive and very unique – I have never seen anything like it and makes the bar / dining area even more striking.
You get a slip that gets you 5 one oz “pours” of a number of wines they have for you to sample. The glass will hold about 2 to 3 pours but the idea is to just taste one pour. I would have a suggestion for you. Since you can get more slips for more pours, get a real glass from the bar.
When you find one you like get a few pours and then transfer them to a real wine glass. Drinking good wine out of a mini IKEA glass (think Skyclub mini-size) is no way to enjoy a good wine. You need a glass to be able to “nose” the wine and with the mini ones that is all but impossible.
The food, like everything in the lounge, is complimentary and is very good. I mean VERY good. They had some mushrooms that were to die for. Yeah, really that good. I had more than I should, but just could not stop myself (when did I ever say that about SkyGrub).
Just inside the doors is a small sitting area with TV & magazines and such.
As well as a coffee station that will make just about anything you want java wise.
Just behind check-in are lockers for your “stuff”. Very convenient and simple to use. You just press “C” and type in a code and then press the lock button and you are set.
On the other side of the TV area are 3 lounging chairs. Great for a nap (just be sure to set an alarm on your phone so you don’t miss your flight). I love these in DFW Centurion as plane watching is so neat from them. The view here is not the draw.
There is ample seating on the other side of the lounge as well.
The lounge feels big and despite a number of patrons in the lounge it did not feel overly crowded.
They have one shower should you need that and since there is only one be sure to get on the list when you check-in. A tip for the controls, “9:PM” on both dials is a good place to start for a modestly warm temperature.
There is also a sink and WC for your needs inside the shower room
As I mentioned from the outset this is a great lounge and worth taking the time to visit. You will have to, as a Delta flyer, depart the terminal, take the land side train around, and reenter security to get there so block off enough time (about 15-20 minutes transit with PreCheck).
Delta is still a ways off from it’s new SFO lounge (as of this publication date the room is just a shell) but even with the all new interiors theme on the way they will have to work very hard to be ½ of what the AMEX Centurion lounge already provides! – René

You can’t get into the AmEx lounges even with the Delta Reserve card. I would have that that for people paying they $450/year annual fee for that card that they’d let you in the AmEx louges without having to pay.

Agreed, I would think a DELTA AmEx Reserve Card should come with complimentary access.
BTW, if you purchase a one-day pass, you can bring in children for free (up to 2) but no adult guests.
Per the T&C’s:
“Centurion® Members and Platinum Card® Members who receive complimentary access may enter with up to two guests or your immediate family (spouse or domestic partner, and children under 18) at no additional charge.
If you purchase a one-day pass, your children under 18 may accompany you at no additional charge. You must purchase a one-day pass for any additional guests.”
Thanks for the review Rene! Can’t wait to get out there next year and check it out. Bummer it’s a hassle for Delta flyers but we know who they are targeting at SFO. I’ll make sure I leave plenty of time on my next trip out there to take it in.
just got to see the centurion lounge in LAS very nice but got there at 10:30 pm missed last call but got some tea and some nice mushroom soup… then onto the plane..
I visited this lounge about two weeks ago.
The wine sampling feature is a neat part of it, although admittedly you’ll switch to a full size glass once you’ve found one that you like.
I found the food aspect a little lacking on my visit. I left a little hungry after trying all the snacks at least once.
