When to add 2015 Delta Mileage Runs? Not a mileage run & where should this post be?

year 2014

I really struggled where to post this post. I have stated that THIS blog is ONLY for deals. However, this question I have for you all really does not matter to Delta Points readers and I have many who only follow this blog and NOT the other blog. So this post lands here and applies here.

Enough rambling. I have been so far ONLY looking for deals we can complete by 31DEC2014. However, at some point we need to begin to look at deals in 2015. After all, many are right now making the choice to rollover as many points as they can and then HAMMER it hard in January and get as many MQMs in January 2015 to jump up in medallion levels. For some this is a great strategy.

So, at some point I need to start posting 2015 Delta mileage runs. When should I start doing this? Now? December? Should I still keep the deals coming and focused on 2014? You see my issue. I think, but could be wrong, most want deals we can get done this year and wait as long as I can to post next year’s deals. But then again, maybe most of you are done booking for this year and are now hungry for 2015 deals!

You tell me. What do you want? I am happy to provide what will benefit you all the most! – Rene

Rene, I’d like to see deals for 2015. I tend to take my runs throughout the year so I don’t have to deal with packing multiple runs in at the end of the year.

Both blogs are great! I am booked up for 2014. I’m only rolling over 30k, and I want to hit DM again next year. I’d like to see more international biz class mileage runs. I’m taking advantage of cheap biz class run to Barcelona in December. It’s easy to spend a long weekend in Europe when you get to fly on full flat seats! That being said, I’m sure there are people who still need to squeeze in some runs before the end of the year. Thanks for all you do!

I just booked Madrid in July. Biz class $1600. That’s cheaper than the Barcelona one I jumped on.

I would say that it’s never too early. Being that tomorrow is November, January 2015 is only two months away. Maybe keep it to a 3-month window, so Jan-Feb 2015 would be in scope.

New around here and to Delta. Anyone have a link as to why hammering MQM in January is a strategy for some? Sorry if this is a foolish question but the Delta medallion system is quite a bit more complex than my last airline.

Basically it is about math. MQD spend (or being exempt via $25k AMEX spend) and then MQMs over 25,000 or onward and how much you want to rolloever and then REALLY start the year out QUICK as if you earn status say by 1MARCH2015 you get that status all of 2015 & all of 2016 as you are earning your 2016 status (2015 is just free) and it all ends if you do nothing 1FEB2017. Clear?

I think you should start posting them after Thanksgiving. There are some of us newbies, (like me who will make it to Platinum for the first time) and just barely got it all arranged yesterday. (I’ll be out of town every Tuesday until the end of the year, plus some just to make it) So, I’m not even thinking of next year.

Totally agree with Carol! More biz to Europe, please! I’m about to hit DM for the first time ever and most of my time is already booked for the rest of this year. I’ll rollover about 20k. My company is cutting back on domestic travel so I’m already thinking about how to secure DM in 2015. A few weekends in Europe would be lovely!

Rolling over 125K+ MQMs, so looking as far out as possible for 2016. Always nice to plan a Feb/Mar trip to get away.

I, too , am new to this blog and appreciate the effort and sharing that the editor/blogger/creator/individual who is doing all of this work. I would like to know more, if possible, about this site and some of the codes that are used. I have figured out the simplest ones (DM, CPM,etc) Is there a glossary at this time?
My situation is fairly straight forward. The station I fly from never has any MR’s and rarely any web fare specials. The CPM is always high for the shortest flights. So here is the question after following the MR posts these last 3 weeks. I am a PM flyer and want to remain there as DM will not help me in my work, just kill me actually. Does one have to fly the actual flights from the scheduled MR’s designated page or can I use my PM status to same day confirm on shorter flights one I make the first leg?

I’ll never forget the time my husband came home and said he had booked two tickets for London leaving December 26th and returning. December 31st because he needed that many miles to get to the next delta level. This had to be 25-30 years ago, long before MQMs and mqd’s. It was an awesome trip and I haven’t been able to convince him to take another run because he flies so freaking much for business that when he gets down time all he wants to do is play golf and rest! But I keep reading the MR page hoping I find one that we just can’t turn down. I’ll have to remind him of that long ago flight . . . Just keep up the great work!
