Welcome to a weekly feature on the Renés Points blog. Each week this series covers in a “rookie” way either a Delta or travel related theme and attempts to break down to a basic level each topic. You can read up on all the previous posts HERE. Now on to this week’s feature.
This one is going to be a catch all on topics I have touched on in posts in the past but not all in once place and this really needs to be one of the posts leading up to 100th in rookie topics. Now I know Delta Points readers are clearly a cut above the rest, but I still have to ask if you have taken the time to go into “My Delta” and set all your preferences in “My Profile“? I mean added things of UBER importance like your TSA PreCheck or Known Traveler number is a must, but what about all the other bits like your SPG number, your preference in car rental and seat choice i.e. window etc.? Then we have things like e-mail preferences. You may not like being “spammed” by Delta, but perhaps you should allow it to get a few gems from our mothership among the junk!
Speaking of SPG, and hotel in general for that matter, did you know a great deal of them have similar choices? I mean things like what type of bed, if you like a high floor or low. Clearly Crossover Rewards is a biggie. Then again here we have things like e-mail preference. I know, I know you get way to much already and this would just be more. Your call but I opt in as I stay at SPG locations all the time (I may opt out from other chains however). As you can see I guess I still have few more I can tweak so SPG can know just what I like. Oh and make sure your current SPG card is on file as well (exp date checked etc).
The same really goes for AMEX. I mean there are many times AMEX offers up great card promos that I can highlight here on the blog but then there are the INSANE big ones like the now and then 150,000 point targeted offers either in e-mail or in the US Mail that can be gold mines and perhaps worth the hassle of some spam now and then. Again, up to you if the value is worth the extra chaff.
I get that some rent cars all the time and others only now and then. I am a member of almost every rental program around but keeping things up to date can really help. For example, what kind of car do you like the best. Or, do you prefer to always decline extra bits like insurance and do you have the right credit card in your profile?
OK this one is maybe a bit of shameless marketing but Delta Points sends out an e-mail just once a day ever. The DeltaMileageRun blog could send out a great deal in a day if there are many deals as they go out normally within about an hour of the post via e-mail and instantly via Twitter feed (you can have it e-mail you right away to alert you of the post). I hope you all will at least subscribe to the once a day blog post e-mail.- René
