Many of us Skyclub members got the above email a while back with Delta promising us that “late this summer” we could expect to see the test items “we members enjoyed most” would be back. Well, just how does one define late summer.
Since fall begins in a little over 40 days from now, I personally think we are late into summer at this point. Also, there has been scuttlebutt from the rumor mill that tomorrow the 11th of August would be the day we get word about just what is coming back and also where it is coming back to (maybe more than just the test spots from round one).
I did reach out to Delta as many times they can give me advanced word about different events about to be released with the promise that I will not go “live” until they do. That did not happen with regard to the Skyclub changes and I was told info was on the way soon.
Personally what I really am looking forward to is the XpresSpa and BeRelax folks setting their massage chairs back up in the clubs. I was told by some of the staff from these two that contracts are being worked out so I think this feature will be back – most excellent if it proves true.
As to the food choices. I think most flyers enjoyed the soups & sandwiches and they will likely be back. I also bet the cost for these will be manageable with the $29 plus 1 upcharges for Delta Reserve card holders that have been in force for months now.
Are you ready for the upgrades to come back and what items do you most hope to see be a permanent part of the Skyclub experience? – René

I would be happy if Delta would at the busiest airports provide a few treadmills and other fitness equipment. I would gladly pay $10 or $15 to use a treadmill for 40 minutes or so. And would a salad bar be too much to ask?
I never seemed to be at an airport that had any of these “upgrades” where available so it will be interesting to see what they are going to offer. Are these complimentary or are we going to have to pay if we want something more than cheese, crackers and cookies?
I personally wish they would bring back self service bars or at least not make the luxury bar the most awkward experience before the sky. No more baileys for free? I am excited about the sandwiches though.
I received one of the email surveys after my travels last week about my “Skypub” experience. Gave “poor” ratings across the board for food and beverage choices. Also made a written comment about the annoying and tacky “Luxury Bar” upselling, although this does vary by location and bartender. Hopefully some positive changes rolling out soon!
Rene, Speaking of delayed announcements, when will delta release how miles will be earned on KLM/AF next year?
@hjohn – yes that would be nice to know. I was told Q4 (yeah I know that is REALLY late)!
Soups and sandwiches would be a great return so we could have some solid food before we jump on a plane.
This post is timely. I asked at MSP F club last week. In the conversation they said that they were not a ‘test club’ because of a lack of proper refrigeration equipment in their galley. I asked if any of the equipment has been procured or changes to their kitchen and they said nothing has happened yet. I think our wait may be longer than originally promised by Delta.
I asked at the Delta SkyClub in Terminal F, Atlanta and they said possibly in September. The emphasized the word possibly.
@Don in ATL – well the would REALLLLLLYYYYYYY be late summer – right? 😉
I saw another blog mentioned dry cleaning pods. As an intl. business traveler who (thankfully only half of the time) heads to work the day I land, I would definitely be interested in that! Not expecting much, though.
