Yesterday, in just about everyone’s e-mails, you got a snazzy and colorful marketing bit about some new signature drinks you can request on Delta jets for $8. Oh, and we can still get the 20% off if we pay with our Delta AMEX cards too! Sounds peachy right?
Not so much when you think about the fact that PRE August 1st drinks were just $7 each on Delta flights. Thus these new fruity concoctions cost 14.3% more than they would have been last month.
Oh, and I do TRULY love and respect Delta FA’s. They do an amazing job with us picky flyers, but being bartenders is not their first line of work. I think many found out about these new drinks when they were pointed out to them. Maybe marketing and training should talk a little bit more.
Anyway, this does make the buying of drink coupons online before you fly at $5 each an even bigger bargain than before (until they realize this has not been updated and jump the price there too that is).
One more thing this does is make the value of spending Skybonus points for drink coupons worth just a tiny bit more! 😉 – René

I wondered about those cocktails when I saw them printed on the drinks & snacks menu. Personally, I think bringing some small ingredients and mixing your own is much more satisfying. e.g. http://www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/in-flight-cocktails-mix-your-own-craft-cocktails-at-30-000-feet-thrillist-nation
Wait… I didn’t get an email yesterday 🙁
@Josh – I will forward a copy to you. Wait… never mind 😉
DL FAs have never heard of any of the signature cocktails, let alone how to make them. Even on transcon, the sunrise cocktail printed on the F menu was a surprise to my last FA.
I wish they would let medallions get their vouchers on mobile. And has anyone noticed that the vouchers used to say food or drink and now are only drinks?
@Noah – Yes – http://deltapoints.boardingarea.com/2014/05/16/reflections-updates-hoou-downgrade-week/
weird, when I user your link to purchase the drink coupon it takes me to my upcoming trips and then there is no way to get one (or 9!)
@Matt – dl link must be at or near check-in
I can offer partial insight into why so few FAs know about this. I just flew DTW-AUS on an A319 and the main cabin crew were kind but only knew that an announcement was made. In other words, they had no idea how to prepare the signature cocktails. However, they showed enough initiative and dedication to fulfilling my request that they conferred with the lead FA in the forward cabin. She had a copy of the announcement with ingredients on her phablet. Success! I ordered the gold and wasn’t crazy about it but that’s because I really would have preferred a Mai Tai. Conclusion: it seems that Delta communicated the cocktail announcement to crew with an internal posting which many didn’t see or read.
@Corbett – what I really hate is the ones who think the medallion HOOUs that are good till year end are NOT good for non-perishables anymore. The FAs that 1/2 read are worse than those who don’t read at all! 🙂
Just got in from a fabulous upper deck experience on the 747 flight from NRT-ATL and the FAs still have no idea about these cocktails.
