Welcome to a weekly feature on the Renés Points blog. Each week this series covers in a “rookie” way either a Delta or travel related theme and attempts to break down to a basic level each topic. You can read up on all the previous posts HERE. Now on to this week’s feature.
I was doing some one-way price checks the other day (I do that a lot when looking for good prices for DeltaMileageRun.com) and found something I have to do each time at Delta.com is sorta frustrating. Delta has decided for me the best “schedule” as far as Delta is concerned.
But, the best schedule is not necessarily the best price and I think most people, unless they are helplessly in love the the disastrous enhanced Skymiles2015, want the cheapest price ticket. Plus, why should one route or arrival vs another be the best? Well, maybe the best schedule is the one that gives the most of my money to Delta. Is that the case?
As you can see from my little one way test there are many choices for me to leave at about the same time, arrive at about the same time, just connect via other airports and drop the price down quite a bit.
BTW this same condition can exist when it comes to frequent flyer seats. Wait – what? Oh you had better believe it, Delta.com will sometimes display a HIGHER price Skymiles award on page one or two unless…
… you change the drop down box to “Miles Per Passanger“. You see Delta would rather you have the BEST MATCH that could cost more miles compared to the lowest miles per passenger. Shocking right – maybe not? (Sigh – This is “The World’s Most Trusted Airline” 😉 )
Bottom line, as I have talked about in other posts showing the six ways Delta will “play” with the pricing, you need to search one seat at a time, search with other sites, do EVERYTHING YOU CAN to find the best deal as Delta.com is NOT going to work for you to get the best price for a ticket from A to B!- René

I found out two things yesterday. Never let an agent “uncheck” you in. When I rechecked in, I lost my number 1 slot on the upgrade list and went to number 6.! IT took several calls to Management to get put back to number 1. My real question, what formula applies when using a regional upgrade cert? I am added to the wait list but am I above all fair classes waiting on an upgrade? Am I ahead of all “complimentary” upgrades? It seems so but I don’t see that in print.
