sr project mgr skymiles medallion program

What is next? We all want to know. What will be the next “enhancement” to come down the line for Skymiles and Medallions? We can look both to the past as well as peeking at job openings to see what upper management is thinking.

First the past. We just recently saw HOOU choices downgrades. Moving back in time we have upgrades taken away from NYC, same day change gutting, T72, numerous point devaluations, Delta DieMiles when you go your miles do too, inability to combine vouchers, reduction in benefits for Silver medallions, less coupons in our medallion kits & more (what have I missed?)!

That is quite a list. What real improvements have we seen? Crossover Rewards is a big win even if you don’t stay at SPG hotels; more so if you do. The new Global and Regional upgrade certs are a HUGE real improvement but the fact that NYC transcons require a GU vs. an RU is a major flaw and cheapens their value immensely.

So looking at the job opening above what can we expect? First things first; unless you are in the top 4% and spending an uber amount, expect more downgrades to our program. At best case it will be tit-for-tat or a net=neutral changes; if we do get we will have to give. I see “cross-division goals” to mean in English anything that happens will have to benefit the revenues side for Delta. The next one is very similar to what I talked about a few weeks back that is what Delta fears most – a mass departure of mid-high level medallions due to Skymiles2015. “Data-driven decisions” means to me if too many depart then change will have to happen to stem the bleeding. Lastly, the final underlined bits in the job posting, again is driving and changes or even perceived changes to result in more revenue from medallion flyers to Delta.

Are you ready to take on this new job? Me, really not so much. If the Skymiles Medallion program were, as it once was, really about building Delta brand loyalty I would love, no treasure, coming to work each and every day! A job where the only goal is to take away as much as possible while balancing how to squeeze as much profit out of medallions does not sound like much fun to me. – René

It sounds like neither of us would want this job. But I’m sure some geek pencil pusher just can’t wait.

Looks like the typical corporate job posting which means that there is no candidate who has all of those qualifications. Perhaps many of these requirements are a way to disqualify many applicants. IF a candidate should meet all of these then the salary would be way too low and out of consideration by such a candidate. Perhaps this is a resting place for upper management that may be on the way out?

Delta DieMiles is certainly a discouragement to wealthy people over 55 traveling the airline.

Are they electronically scanning death records?

I long for the good old days of an FTC and DOJ that hated airline mergers as the anti-competitive force they are.

As to the job, no shortage of applicants , trust me.
Same as if Utah resumes death by firing squad, just less drama.
“Move along here, nothing to see” should be the Skymiles slogan.
Has anyone ever experienced a DL flight pulling back up to the gate to get someone who was late as in the commercial that was discontinued?

You forgot not being able to hold an award ticket reservation for any amount of time.

@Christine – Not really medallion specific but still yes a loss. There are many other things taken away that affects all.

You forgot not being to take a+1 into the sky club even when you’ve paid now $495 for the reserve card.

You forgot only being able to get a credit card bonus once in your lifetime. It would be interesting to compile an entire list instead of piece meaning it . . . If delta has devaluing, that is.

Just catching up after return from JNB on KLM. This job appears to require no imagination and is purely data driven which to me means backward looking and it also appears to merely be a flunky for achieving the goals of others. PS although there are no MQDs (credit card takes care of those) from flying KLM, I enjoyed a wonderful flight experience and could use the KLM/AF lounge in JNB that delta has taken away from its STE+ members.
