I am working to end the year with just under ¼ million MQMs and about 1 million Skymiles. The EZ flow of points from all kinds of sources will continue in 2015, but the one thing that will end is the mega bonus from mileage runs. What ones have you missed the past week or so?
- Dallas to San Francisco $292 & 5740MQMs at 5.1CPM
- Charlotte to Seattle $255 & 5145MQMs at 4.9CPM
- Los Angeles to Budapest $840 & 13,960MQMs at 6CPM
- Fort Lauderdale to Norway $492 & 11,827 at 4.2CPM
- Salt Lake to San Juan $439 & 7172MQMs at 6CPM
- Phoenix to St Maarten $323 & 8833MQMs at 3.7CPM
- Salt Lake to Santiago 1st class $895 & 12,532MQMs just 7.1CPM
Do I only earn Delta points? No, I am burning 32,500×2 next month to go to my nephew’s wedding. I am trying to get the ticket down to 25k each but right now 40k is all that is showing due to the very small airport I am flying into with limited connection options (other airlines don’t even go there). How are your earning goals progressing thus far this year? – René

Congrats! That should be enough miles for a trip to Australia. 🙂
@Nic – nah, I know how to spend my Delta points and I am banking that Delta is not lying and we will see better award space next year.
and what do u do when you need to redeem for 3-class F?
@Patricia – simple, I use my almost 1 million stockpile of AA points 😉 but Delta BE full flat service works for me.
Umm. A big fat zero. But you guessed that 😉
@Kevincm – hey, you are NOT fat 🙂 – just cuddly.
I had 300k, but I’m terrified of the new skymiles program, so I booked a business class trip to Indonesia and Australia next month for 120k miles and a business class trip to India and Maldives in October for 140k miles.
748,000 SkyMiles? 748,000 SkyMiles?!? Great Scott!! Marty, I’m sorry, but the only source capable of burning 748,000 Delta SkyMiles is an international first class redemption.
Amazing…! I HAD almost 2 million Delta Skymiles until recently, and have been desperately getting rid of them because of the devaluations – with 77,000 miles to go. Most of the miles have been given away as gifts to friends (senior citizens) who can’t afford J class travel.
I live in SEAsia with SQ and CX as my main FF programs and way better than Delta/Skymiles. I will never fly Delta again, even for free. I still have over 10 million Star Alliance/One World miles stashed away.
Apologies for being cynical…
I’ve been consistently burning through roughly 300K-400K miles per year for the past 3-4 years. Most of it is used for tickets for my kids when we take international trips – no need to spend money on their tickets since they don’t accrue enough miles to gain status each year. The rest of it is used to pay for trips for my retired parents.
I’m like some of the others here. I don’t trust Delta so I earn em and burn em each year. I’d rather not be stuck with regret when Delta decides to screw us again.
284,000 need to book a vacation soon!
30 miles on account. Haha
I’m sad that so many of y’all are so burdened by your immense accumulations of miles. I’ll happily accept any that you want to send my way!
@cyhu – it is SO easy for your to earn your own. Seriously!
240,000 to burn on my international flights in DEC. Thanks to Rene’ I know how to build the account back up when I plan my next year of “mega travel”.
I still think most delta ffs and even many of your readers do not comprehend the magnitude of the changes in the 2015 program. Starting in 2015, for a PM who will earn nine miles for every credited dollar, to earn enough miles for two low-level business-class tickets to europe will require spending over $27,000 on delta tickets plus taxes and fees and a standard award for those tickets would require spending more than $43,000. Clearly getting as many miles as possible now is a no-brainer if you plan to stay in the program next year. Starting in 2015 it will become easier and easier to get award seats on delta because there will be so few new miles being awarded. I have about 500,000 miles now and would like to get as close to 1,000,000 as possible by year end. Long term, though, these changes will force me to leave delta especially if other airlines do not go to revenue-based programs. Keep those MR deals coming!
Hm.. I find that PWP is sometimes a better deal than using skymiles directly. We have to go to a family function in NJ (EWR) in 3 weeks. I am flying the family of 4 FLL –> LGA on the way up and return EWR–>ATL–>FLL.
The tickets were $305 per person. First I used my Delta Plat Amex domestic companion voucher to book tickets for my wife and myself. It took about 8 times of entering in the trip before getting the flight selection I was looking for. I then booked tickets for my 11 and 15 year old. These were $610 and I paid 60,000 miles and $10 in cash. I had to cheat and make my son 3 years older so that the web site would not come up with unaccompanied minor, but had a medallion agent on the phone with me as I did this and she immediately changed his birth year back to 1998.
Also, when I first looked at the trip a month ago, the EWR–>ATL leg was on a smaller 2 and 1 or 2 and 2 commuter jet that my wife will not even set foot on, but now they are flying the new (at least to Delta) 717, which looks more like a shorter md90 and hopefully my wife will get on.
As far as miles are concerned, I have 174,836 left. just spent 60k on the tickets mentioned here and I think my wife used 200k last fall when she met me in London. She flew DL Business Class while I went Premium Economy on Virgin as a DL code share……

Several years ago I had accumulated 1.6 OLD Million Medallion miles that were eligible for the special Medallion awards chart. Then Delta announced that OLD miles would be no longer be grandfathered.
I burned them as fast as I could. Use’ m or lose’m.
@Rene – Thanks for the encouragement! I’ve been enjoying your posts and learning from you for some time now. I’m trying hard not to be impatient with my spend/points accumulation…
I appreciate all the info here!
