Did you end up MQM short for 2013? There is still a shot to buy more MQMs!

big price to buy mqms

With a HT to PM&M my fellow BA blogger for breaking the news, Delta is extending the time limit to buy MQMs until 31JAN2014. Now the site has NOT been updated but I can confirm that the date has been extended.

More updates. These MQMs DO NOT count on 2014. They will backdate to your 2013 flying year. Now, say you have 50,000 MQMs on 31DEC2013 and you now buy MQMs, they would rollover into 2014 as anything over your 50,000 but under 75,000 does rollover. But in this latter case getting an AMEX Reserve card would be SO much cheaper and apply on 2014! Clear?

The prices are the same as they were in December, that is very expensive but if you are the ultimate of procrastinators and just could not find the time to get the MQMs you needed before the end of the year, you can now buy them until the end of month. Just don’t on 01FEB ask me it if is too late 😉 – René

Do MQMs carryover if you’re not yet Silver/Gold/etc? I finished 70 miles short of Silver, will I start 2014 w 24930?

@Mlh – only those OVER 25,000 but under 50,000 rollover. So, let’s say you buy 2,500 you will then be Silver for 2014 and rollover 2,430. Clear?

It seemed quite a few people had Christmas MRs that were cancelled due to snow storms with no chance to rebook before the new year and no ORC given. I wonder if this time extension is Delta’s way of helping those people out (and making a bit of money from their misfortune).

    Yes, makes sense.
I’m actually 270 short now that I look closer. The fewest miles you can purchase appears to be 2000 (for $70) – while this isn’t a good value, its cheaper (or at least as cheap as) any flights I could purchase and I’m really only interested in getting to Silver. So I purchase the 2000, get up to 26730 and qualify for Silver, then 1730 rollsover to 2014, right?

Ah, just noticed that those were regular miles (2000/$70) but that MQMs were much more expensive (2500/$475). Not worth it for me to just get to Silver. Thanks though!

I logged into my delta account and found out everything is 0. I was pretty close to getting silver status. Do you think I can call delta and ask for silver status with me buying MQM miles with money. Would they do that?
