Via twitter this time Delta has announced that they will now offer, not just to Economy Comfort coach seats, but to all of coach seats free “spirits” i.e. drinks (not just wine and beer as in past).
A Delta rep further expanded this at FlyerTalk that this is not just for the rest of 2013 but a change in policy for coach flyers.
Now on a long haul trip I have to agree an after dinner drink can be very nice so this is a UPGRADE after a long list of downgrades this year. I have some questions that time will answer. I have spent some time in coach on Delta international flights and I have found service to be good but sparse. Plan on getting up and going to the galley to get your refills if you want them (or hit the call button).
Another issue I hope they address is stocking a bunch more for the flights. There have been many a flight where nice products like Woodford Reserve has run dry and a plane full of coach passengers requesting drinks could empty a service cart quick!
A good change Delta and I hope it is implemented correctly! What do you think?- René

Excellent news! Air France also announced recently ACTUAL upgrades to the economy experience (http://corporate.airfrance.com/en/press/news/article/item/new-economy-and-premium-economy-long-haul-experience/). Maybe other airlines will follow suit on this true “enhancement.” 🙂
In my experience, when flying economy it can be somewhat difficult to get a beer or wine “refill” from the FAs outside of the meal service times which leads me to believe this is the policy. Sure I get some DM love occasionally, but this seems to be the exception, not the rule (I once got a 750ml bottle of champagne!) I would expect the same policy if they expand the complimentary alcohol choices to include liquor. Of course, if the policy is “any time” I’d love to see it in print so I could show an FA who turns me down (not that I like to drink a lot on a flight: dry air + dehydration = not good…but sometimes you need a 2nd beer after eating overly salted economy food).
Meh. Free booze is kind of a lame enhancement in view of all the other downgrades we’ve suffered recently.
I’ll take any good news as a Delta flyer. Won’t apply to me as I won’t be flying coach on international on Delta metal in the foreseeable future but if this helps Delta regulars I am happy about it.
Just came back from mexico on DL metal. No one on board was aware of the new policy. I showed them the email from Delta and they settled with allowing me one wine for no charge.
What does “interport” mean?
Why is this good news? This only means prices will increase.
