This time of the year we are all looking at our MQM totals (if you have not, you should be)! I promise you I will get a flood of comments and e-mails the last week of December asking how to get 200 or 500 or 5000 MQMs as they are just a little short of whatever medallion level. Please don’t be that person. Look at card options now. You do still have some time if you want to grab a mileage run at a good price, but prices will be going up the closer we get to 31DEC. Delta has not yet offered MQMs for sale this year, but it was around the 15th of November each of the past two years. This should be looked at as a last ditch choice as the price has been very high.
Hilton has again offered a way to earn up to 10,000 MQMs with a bunch of 2 night stays. There are a bunch of conditions as you can see from the site:
“To be eligible for this offer, you must (1) select Delta Air Lines as your preferred Double Dip® Points & Miles™ Partner in your Hilton HHonors account profile, (2) complete a minimum two-night stay at a hotel or resort within the Hilton HHonors™ portfolio from September 30, 2013 through December 13, 2013, and (3) register online at HHonors.com/DELTAMQM prior to check-out. You must be a Hilton HHonors member to earn Points and Miles for hotel stays. Bonus Delta Mileage (Variable Miles Members): For qualifying stays at Home2 Suites by Hilton™ hotels, earn up to 100 Bonus Miles per qualifying stay + 250 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs). For all other Hilton Worldwide brands, earn 1 Bonus Mile for every US dollar spent on a qualifying stay + 250 MQMs. A maximum of 10,000 MQMs can be earned through this offer. MQMs cannot be earned on Bonus Miles. Allow up to six weeks after promotion has ended for Bonus Miles and MQMs to be credited to your account. Last year, there were some who had some issues getting credits in a timely manner. Notice it says it takes up to six weeks to get credit so don’t push this one! And, be sure you take the steps it talks about, that is picking Delta as your preferred Double Dip:
You do this by going to your “My Account” and then down to “Preferences” on the left side of the page as you can see above.
Then lastly make sure you have Delta as your choice as well as confirming your Skymiles number is correct. Delta is NOT going to be very helpful if things go wrong with the promotion as it is from Hilton.
Speaking of Hilton and points, one of the options of earning some nice extra Delta points will be gone on 06JAN2014. While this change hurts, I think many Delta flyers have been abandoning Hilton already due to their massive devaluation’s this year. This and the fact that CrossoverRewards with SPG and Delta has been such a nice program.
Our airline has been in the forefront with the push to let us use our “toys” from gate to gate. All the “mainline” jets have been certified that approved electronic devices will not interfere with the planes. Regional jets will have to wait a little longer (till the end of the year). Delta is so proud of this that they even have a contest going on their Facebook page where you can win a pair of 1st class domestic tickets by taking photos under 10k. You will have to pay TAX on the value of the prize if you win btw.
Lastly today, the oldie but the goodie Delta new member bonus link still seems to be working. I would do screen shots of the final page where it says you have successfully registered. – René

My HH stay from 11/1 posted to my Skymiles account(both bonus and MQM) today! Looks like the turnaround time is fairly quick this year. Still, great advice on not waiting till the last minute!

Rene, the Hilton wording you quote says: “…(Variable Miles Members)…”. In your screen shot, you selected “Points and fixed miles”. Can you confirm this MQM promotion works for both choices – fixed and variable?
Thanks for the heads up, BTW! I’m currently at a (Hilton) Waldorf Astoria in Rome, and I have three more Hilton property stays booked for this month.
@Ken – yes, I think during this promotion you need to pick the other one. My default one is fixed but I never stay at Hilton anymore unless on points.
I did get the 250 MQM for my stay…checked out Nov. 23rd, posted Nov. 30th.
