What a difference. Don’t get me wrong, the Holiday Inn Elk Grove that hosted that Chicago Seminars has done a great job for years. We had some chair issues this year but the sound in the conference rooms works and the restaurant has decent food. The rooms are, well, basic “HI”. My bed at the HI was hard! I could go on.
I am working on completing my 25 stays for SPG Platinum Status and the SPG Westin Chicago Northwest was less than 5 miles from IKEA and we needed to stop there on the way home after the Seminars, so why not try this one rather than go back to the excellent SPG Sheraton Suites Elk Grove we stayed at before the event.
I was extended an upgrade to a Jr. Suite and when you see double doors leading into your room you should be most pleased but, like my fellow blogger Ben from OneMileataTime, it was not ALL that I expected (notice the cheap stick-on door bell).
There was a 10×15 foot open space with a small table (did not shoot it) then you entered what was a basic but nice king room.
The Bed was soft (my sore HI back thanks you SO much Westin) and clean as well as the rest of the room.
The TV worked and was clear and the Internet was fine and free as a CrossoverRewards member and an SPG elite.
The work space was ample and the chair comfortable and there was a power “pop-up” outlet behind the lamp.
The only issue with the power was, as you can see, that the cover was broken and you could (I did not) reach inside and probably electrocute yourself. Not good for little ones I would say!
One thing I love to see at both the Westin and Sheraton club rooms is a nice soft robe.
The bathroom was clean and fine but like most Jr. Suites nothing special compared to other King rooms at most hotels.
It did have one big plus, a larger shower area and it is amazing what a little bigger space can do to make you feel less cramped in a shower. Oh, and the Westin dual shower heads; man I love those. Put them both on massage setting with HOT water (there was plenty) and you feel like a new person. Love it!
My view out the window as the sun came up was sweet! Overall I really enjoyed my stay at the SPG Westin Chicago Northwest and would go back again. Not just that, but I will show you later today how you can go and with your Mastercard save 40% on your second night at this hotel and others! – Rene
