I like Westin hotels. I really like the Westin Atlanta as it is close to the airport, very reasonable when redeeming SPG points and has nice rooms.
The shuttle back and forth to the airport is free and runs often and the drivers are courteous, helpful and seem genuinely happy you are staying at the Westin. I love that.
The entrance is open plan and there were 3 reps checking people in (also nice). They had a brief computer issue that prevented them encoding room keys but that happens. The rep was kind enough to recognize my GOLD SPG status and upgraded me to a Jr. Suite.
The room was on the far corner of the hotel on the 9th floor. It was nice size and I enjoy having a living room area to relax in and watch TV (there were two in the room).
The room was clean, air temp was comfortable and there were, due to the size of the room, two AC units controlling the space.
The work space was compact but had several power outlets and thanks to CrossoverRewards I was given both SPG bonus points for my free stay and free internet access as well.
Since this was a Jr. Suite the bathroom was stock size and just OK. I really like either a big bathroom or a separate vanity area from the shower. Just so much better when two of us are getting ready.
We took a casual morning off in the room after we had a nice late dinner with some of my fellow BA bloggers in Atlanta as well as a Delta rep. Breakfast was warm, good and reasonable for room service. Since it was my only cost for the stay we splurged a little.
We packed up and took the kool glass elevators down to the lobby. They start on outside the building and then go inside. It is a neat ride down I must say and felt like a kid on each ride.
We did not check out the bar but it seemed nice and open.
Nor did we dine but I have had both breakfast and dinner at the Westin restaurant before and they do a very nice job and the food quality is very good.
They have a quick grab-a-bite area with screens for departing flight times. I like this feature in hotels but will still trust my delta phone app over these kinds of displays.
Since we already had breakfast in the room I did not sample the offerings but it was nice to have it there if you are in a hurry.
I have put up a quick video of our Jr. Suite as you can see above and I have often stayed at this location when in Atlanta and when I take a bump I often say no thanks to the hotels Delta is offering and just ask for another voucher instead and I will take care of my own hotel and then stay here. If you need a quality nice hotel near the airport, look to the Westin ATL! – René

We (my girlfriend and I) stayed at the Westin ATL just once (in March 2009) and also enjoyed it. We were checked in by a girl from Austria. It was fun to talk in German with a rep which is rarely the case, because we always travel to the US in our vacations. Well, German? More something like Denglish (Deutsch/English) 😉
When staying overnight near ATL we also enjoyed the Sheraton and the Hampton Inn. I know, a Hampton Inn may not quite stand up to a Sheraton or a Westin, but it offers free breakfast which is quite nice. And they are both located across the street from a Ruby Tuesday. This may not be everyone’s taste but we very much like it. For us, it’s usually a great last dinner before heading back to Germany.
So though we prefer different properties in Atlanta, we still have good memories of the Westin as well.
Maybe I should add that most of the time we stay at places like Days Inn, Comfort Inn, etc … so a Hampton Inn is very nice 😉
