fireside chat photo delta points blog

Welcome to a new Sunday series that will be a bit like a fireside chat. I count it a privilege to be a part of an amazing group of Travel bloggers here at BoardingArea.com.  But just how well do you know “your” BoardingArea writers? Are you reading all the blogs you should be each day? This series will help you get to know them one by one. Now on to this weeks chat.

Grace from flygracefully blog boarding area

René – Hello Grace. So fun to get to know you a bit better. To start with, just why do you blog?

Grace – I started the blog at the urging of my coworkers. They loved my travel stories I’d post on Facebook and, like a couple others on BoardingArea, I’m the go-to person in my company for the current promotions.

René – Oh that is something I hear a lot that someone says you really should blog. Fun to know. But why did you pick BoardingArea?

Grace – I started on Blogger originally. My blog was called TravelingRD because I’m a registered dietitian and I planned on blogging about healthy eating and exercising while traveling 80%. I wasn’t really motivated to post and I started talking about generic travel. I did a movie review on Up In the Air and Randy read it and asked me to join BA. I changed my title to reflect my new content.

Rene – Neat. Randy has had such a great influence on so many of us. So since this chat is all about getting to know all the “BA” bloggers, just who are you. For example, my wife Lisa just loves your blog. Are you writing primarily toward the female audience or who should follow you?

Grace – Thanks for the compliment! Since I’m not always the first to know about promotions or the best at figuring out when home improvement gift cards can be liquidated for cash I try to focus on what I know…my personal travel story. I view it as more of a diary and I talk about whatever is going on in my life or what current events sound like a good topic. I write for myself.

Rene – giggle – I do think there may be just a few other BA bloggers that can cover those topics so I think your readers don’t need to come to you about those things! But how neat, that is something I think many can relate to. I think many read flygracefully for just that. To enjoy the story you tell. It is great you bring that to the BA family. So tell us more. What are some of the things you are most proud of on your blog that we should all know about?

Grace – After seeing a lot of threads pop up on Flyertalk about what it’s like to be a business traveler I decided to start a weekly series where I talk about what my schedule was like the previous week. I post them Wednesdays at 6 pm (give or take) and recap the previous week. I mention upgrades, dinners, and travel issues so anyone thinking about a business travel job can get a taste of what it’s like. Sometimes I get a really great dinner, other times I’m stuck in the airport for 10 hours. I also post a running tally of my quest for status. I used to get commenters telling me I didn’t travel enough because I’m not top tier in any program. I fly a lot, I just spread it out among a few programs.

Rene – That is great to be able to catch up on posts each week (you can check it out btw at the link HERE). I also get readers who say they have a hard time keeping up with all the great information at BA each week. One of the best things about BoardingArea is readers have so many unique bloggers to choose from to get information they need. I think we will see that as this fireside series continues. Thank you so much Grace for sitting down with me and getting to know you and FlyGracefully!

Grace – My pleasure. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

In addition to here at BoardingArea you can follow Grace on Facebook and Twitter. I hope you enjoy this new weekly series and be sure to check back next week when we get to sit down with another one of our bloggers and to see what makes them tick! – René

I really enjoy the “diary style” of Fly Gracefully. When I read it, I always imagine that it’s a Travelogue on PBS 🙂

Interesting to learn that you are a registered dietician.

Thanks, Pixie. I don’t fly my credentials too high since those in the industry could figure out who I work for and I try to keep that separate.
