OK – The Delta Phone App 2.2 updates are GREAT (when they work)!

tweet about Delta 2-2 app upgrade

I was very hard on Delta the other day when the 2.2 update loaded. I got to test it right away as my Android saw the update and started to push it over while I was on my mileage run last week. I tweeted the above thoughts about the app. Why? The very first time I tried the new features I got:

Not just that, the bug still exits that if you have more than one or two reservations, it takes forever for the app to load. I have been told one day that will be fixed. Personally I would rather that what we have work than to add more features that also only sometimes load. To me, it is almost like a cookie I can not eat until company arrives! But those are the drawbacks.

Once I can get in, as staring at the above loading page makes me crazy, I am starting to really like it.

The home screen looks familiar until you start to dive into the tabs!

In My Delta things also look about as they did before. But,

The My Wallet page is a much different place as you can see above

You can see all the credit cards you have stored. In my case, both my personal Delta AMEX Reserve card as well as my business Delta AMEX Reserve card as a backup.

It is great to be able to access the receipts of your past trips. For me, who has a bunch of receipts, I could only go so far back before I was stuck and no more receipts could be found.

Access to your Skymiles card is kinda nice. As we know, you can use it check-in at the kiosk scanners.

Now one thing I did like using and tested during my last run was my digital Skyclub “card”. It scanned fine and worked no problem (as long as I did not mind waiting for 1-2 minutes for the app to load up, that is). Not just that, but many times when I pull up the app, and try to access my Skyclub card, I got:

Why do I have to login when I am already logged in? So, I have to exit out, all the way out, login again and wait 1-2 minutes and then access the page. Ugg. The only thing still missing, as showing on the page, is access to eCredit and certs on this page of the app. I hope we get to see that soon too.

Another nice page is being able to either update or confirm you data. Under the flight tab you can make sure your loyalty, your Skybonus as well as, like I talked about the other day at Delta.com, your seat and home airport preference. Nice.

Additional upgrades, again from the home page, is the My Profile page. You can make sure so much data is right like your secure flight data, contact and passport info. Again simple to confirm and access.

So I like where Delta is going with the changes with the Android and iPhone app (no I am not going to change to an iPhone so don’t say that please). As a frequent Delta flyer, and one who always has my phone with me just about 24/7, I love what the app is becoming. If they can make it boot up in say 20 seconds or less and then not constantly give me errors when I go to use it, I will be a most happy camper! – René

The iPhone app load time is just as pathetic.

@Mike G – really? “I” people tell me it loads so fast it burns their fingers (I kid maybe a little)! 😉

app took a long time this morning to pull up my boarding pass. Felt like amateur hour at LGA precheck/sky priority

I really wish they had fixed the flight status bug on the itinerary pages. Every flight I have booked for the next few months is showing “on time”. The gate info. also seems to be updated very last minute lately.

You may have missed this DL news tidbit: On Friday, Delta announced that they have purchased Nokia smartphones for each and every flight attendant. I knew such an idea was in the works, but had hoped for iPhones or iPad Mini’s (as I’ve become an Apple loyalist). The Nokia Lumia 820 phones run Windows Phone 8.

@LarsEricNYC – no I was flying before the announcement and got to see them and see and get some feedback from the FA’s. They are very afraid of loosing them and the cost to replace them after round 1 or 2 or more! 😉 I am in fear of this, as well as so many other things, that will take more and more time from FA’s doing their jobs! More on the way soon. Rene

@Mike G, my iPhone app loads very quickly. The functionality isn’t always great but no issues with load time.

@Rene No, not trying to convince you to use an iPhone, but I’m sure you appreciate the data point.

Since I always have multiple tickets booked both the IPhone and the IPad apps load very very slowly. The one cool thing about the IPAD app is you can see the seat map on alternative flights when there is a delay. Well on my way to Diamond this year the hard way!
