Club Carlsson, I’m already gold and I’ve been upgraded to some of the best suites in their Europe properties. Not quite as keen on the program in the states but the 85k sign up bonus coupled with the extra night redemption makes it a great card to have. Sometime after I meet the ink plus spend some this last promotion. Delta platinum card likely after those two 🙂

I’m done for the year, I have all the cards I wanted and need to let my scores recover for a while. OK, that’s a lie. Something from Chase or AMEX. I’m frustrated with US Bank even though I got the Club Carlson Business. Bank of America does not have any offerings I need (have Virgin Atlantic) and Citi is driving me nuts with not being able to combine credit card accounts online so I can see Hilton and AA card on one screen login.

I found a card that really interests me. I’m going for it: the Fidelity Investment Rewards card. It’s a break from the travel cards, issued by an “off” bank, an Amex, and the rewards get invested into mutual funds. How cool is that?

I have a solid vision for my next card and selected my card based on the value it will provide me for my travels.

My travelling for work has started to pick up substantially. I will be travelling for work 20-25 times this year, both domestically and internationally. To that end, I’ve decided to apply for the Mercedes-Benz Amex Platinum Card.

At $475/year, it ain’t cheap. But I know I’ll easily recover value over the year:
    1) 50,000 signup bonus points with 3K in spending over the 1st 3 months — easily worth >$500.
    2) I’m going to apply for Global Entry — for both myself, my wife, and my parents. Reimbursement value of $400 on the application fees.
    3)$200 airline credits on incidentals
4)Lounge access: I’ll be flying Delta mostly since i’m out of Atlanta. That alone is worth >$300 for me.

So in the 1st year, I’m valuing the points/credits I receive at ~$1400, easily recouping the annual fee of $475+$175(for the 3 additional cards). Not a bad deal at all!

I have had the Carlson personal card for about 7 months and have used it for great stays in Bangkok, the Ukraine, and Tashkent. I am in Radisson Blu in Tbilisi, Georgia right now…… on points, of course. The Carlson points work very well for me because I travel mostly outside of the US. I just hope that Carlson doesn’t devalue/change this in the very near future.

I’d say the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Visa card. With this card you can transfer points to both British Airways Chase card and United Chase card. Not so the other way around.
Another subject: I will never go with rentalcars.com again. The rental immediately went onto my card and I couldn’t get it off. Problem was in order to cancel it I tried calling their toll free numbers (I didn’t have internet access at that time), and they were never available. The cut off time for cancelling passed, and now I’m stuck with a $315 bill for nothing.
