This is a hotel that understands the hotel business. It really is hard to find enough good words to say about this hotel. A bunch of readers told me I would enjoy this hotel during my 15,000 mile mileage run and that it was a good choice for an LAX airport hotel; thank you, readers, you were spot on and right.
As an SPG Gold I have been very impressed. I often get upgrades from a stock room to a high floor or even a club level room. Not always but enough that I really VALUE my status with SPG. They get it!
At chcek-in I went to the Gold / Platinum line with 2 reps waiting. They were both looking at their computers and did not see me, but once they did they motioned me over and profusely apologized for keeping me waiting. Not needed but impressive nonetheless!
My upgraded room was not huge but fine and nice and my bed was soft and comfy and I had a great view of the airport!
Bathroom was fine too. Not huge but enough that I did not feel claustrophobic (I hate that).
Then on to the club room for a snack before bed as I was already sleepy after so much time in coach and was ready for bed even before “dinner”.
The club room was nice size and the snacks were of good quality and variety. If I had to find anything at all to nit pick at all, it would be that drinks, other than the soft ones, were per drink. Many other Sheratons had top shelf for a fee and std ones for free. For 7000 SPG this was a great value to me during my run. I NEEDED a good night off and a good night’s rest; the Sheraton Gateway LAX did just that for me. Lastly, again an important feature of an airport hotel, the shuttle was quick, timely and got me to and from the airport in no time. I would stay at this hotel again in a heartbeat and thank them for a great stay! – René

Thanks for the review. I haven’t stayed there yet but that might change as early as this year. Maybe 😉
Thank you Rene for this trip report!! You’ve helped me me decide to stay at this hotel for a one night layover at LAX 🙂
Does anyone know how the Westin LAX compares to Sheraton Gateway LAX?
I have stayed there solo and with groups that I organize. I’m lifetime SPG Plat and ONLY stay at the Sheraton Gateway LAX. Staff super friendly – hotel is GREAT. Especially like the private cabanas by the outdoor pool
Westin LAX & 4 Points pale in comparison.
Thanks Andrew for you input!!
Had a very different recent experience with this hotel’s people. Front desk couldn’t get me to the elevator fast enough (and not in a good way). Room was ok. As a Diamond Crossover, I got no enhancements (fine, they’re subject to availability), but my internet connection didn’t indicate it was free. When I called, I was interrupted and told to accept the fee, that it wouldn’t be charged. Not only was it charged, it was charged 4 times ($50+)! I’ve made nearly a dozen phone calls over the last week, and still have not seen a refund.
FWIW – I never wait for the Slow Sheraton Shuttle at LAX unless I’ve got a ton of bags. Sheraton Gateway is an 11-12 minute walk, and my much preferred Four Points is about 18. I’ve never had a problem or felt unsafe at any hour in that area.
